In an attempt to ensure cyber-security and prevent cyber-attacks from other countries, India will soon come up with new-age cyber security solutions, artificial intelligence and advanced capabilities in big data analytics.
New-age cyber security solutions for India
Leading French defence major Thales Group is coming up with alternatives to focus significantly on addressing the necessities of the Indian armed forces for new-age cyber security solutions, artificial intelligence and advanced capabilities in big data analytics.
Chairman and CEO of Thales Group Patrice Caine said, “The company has been looking at expanding its overall footprint in India, particularly in the areas of emerging technologies that will be crucial for the armed forces.”
The Indian Army, the Navy and the Indian Air Force have been aiming at utilising advanced technologies like nanotechnology, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, swarm drones and robotic technologies to deal with future security challenges.
Caine also told PTI, “We are also looking at bringing some key pieces of equipment and systems to contribute to raise our level of involvement in sharing defence technologies with India’s defence sector in the field of sonar, radars and other platforms.”
Defence production under the ‘Make in India’ initiative’
It is pertinent to note that India is all set to expand its defence production under the ‘Make in India’ initiative’. Caine, while interacting with the media informed that Thales Group will be ensuring all the help to India by producing equipment for the nation to expand its defence production under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
India has a good talent pool to develop cyber-security solutions, AI applications and big data analytics,” he said.
Under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, India is anticipated to spend approximately USD 300 billion in the next five years to acquire defence equipment.
Thanes boosting defence manufacturing
Thales, a part of the French firms that provided key components for the Rafale jets acquired by India, also helped Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) in producing modules for the RBE2 radar. The firm has also been providing avionics and other equipment to the state-run aerospace behemoth Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for over four decades now.
Additionally, more than 600 employees are functioning with Thales with its offices in New Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai, in India since 1953.
China accused of cyber attack
Earlier this year, General Bipin Rawat, India’s highest-ranking armed forces official, while interacting with the media, said, “China is capable of launching cyber attacks on us that can disrupt a large amount of our systems.”
“While we’re trying to create firewalls against cyber attacks, we’re quite sure that they [Chinese hackers] will break through these firewalls,” Rawat said.
With the statements, it can be observed that the Chinese cyber threat exists and can cause a lot of damage to the country. Thus, to fight against these cyber attacks by China, India is all set to come up with new-age cyber security solutions.
