Today, the Khan family finds itself in a lot of trouble. Aryan Khan has been sent to Arthur Road jail for two-week judicial custody. Aryan Khan, as is largely known, is Shah Rukh Khan’s son. Shah Rukh Khan is not the first film star who finds himself in a rather peculiar position. But he has a lot to learn from how others handle such drug busts within the family, and how they publicly denounce drug consumption. The best example to follow in such a case is that of Jackie Chan. Jackie Chan is a world-famous actor, director, and martial artist known for his slapstick acrobatic fighting style, comic timing, and innovative stunts, which he typically performs himself.
After Shahrukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Sunday (October 3) following a drug bust on a cruise ship, the Bollywood A-listers have come out in full, unwavering, and unflinching support of Aryan, in order to suck up to the Khan of Bollywood. Pooja Bhatt, Sunil Shetty, Hrithik Roshan, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, Hansal Mehta, and others – they have all voiced support for Aryan Khan, his father, and their entire family. They are only emboldening the belief that because somebody happens to be somebody’s son, he can consume drugs and get away with it.
Superstar Jackie Chan faced a similar situation in 2014. And his was a far more peculiar one. During that time, the legendary actor was the Narcotics Control Ambassador for the Chinese police. Due to his role, he had been the face of various anti-drug movements and frequently spoke in support of the Chinese Communist Party.
Jaycee Chan – Jackie’s son had put him in quite a difficult position. The star’s son was arrested in Beijing in 2014 on drugs charges. The Chinese police had confirmed that they found more than 3.5 ounces of marijuana in Jaycee Chan’s house. The actor’s 32-year-old son was tested positive for having consumed the prohibited substance. He was busted alongside a Taiwanese movie star Kai Ko, and a third person, known as Mr. Song, who was charged for circulating the drugs uncovered at the property.
During Jaycee’s investigation, not only the traces of drugs were found in his system, but inspections disclosed that many celebrities visited his apartment to acquire the drugs.
How Did Jackie Chan React?
Jackie Chan was left embarrassed due to the antics of his son. Also, being a superstar in China, and having a son who likes fooling around is hardly a position anyone wants to be in. When the time came to respond to the situation, Jackie had apologised before the whole world. He had appeared before the media after Jaycee was charged and said, “I feel very ashamed.” At the very same he expressed his disappointment in his son as, he wrote on social media, “I am very angry with my son’s actions and I feel ashamed.”
Jaycee Chan was sentenced to six months in jail at that time. When Jesse Chen returned after completing his six-month sentence, he said in a press conference, “I know I made a big mistake and I have been punished for that mistake. For which I apologise and will never do such a wrong thing now onwards.”
How has Shah Rukh Khan Responded to His Son’s Shenanigans?
He has not. Shah Rukh Khan has retired into silence. He is nowhere to be found. If Shah Rukh Khan considers himself a Robert Downer Sr, who is infamous for having handed a joint to his son – Robert Downey Jr when he was six, then the man is in for a big surprise, because there exists some proof that SRK was fine in 1997 with the acts his son has today been accused of indulging in.
In a 1997 video, Shah Rukh Khan is seen being interviewed by Simi Garewal, for her show ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’. In the interview, Shah Rukh proudly boasts that how he will spoil his son Aryan once he grows a little older. On being asked, about raising Aryan, Shah Rukh said, “I have just told him that he can run after girls. Smoke as much as he wants. He can do drugs, can have sex. He can womanize.” Although it seems that the statement was made by Shah Rukh in a lighter vein, netizens were quite discontent with Shah Rukh Khan’s views on raising children, especially sons.
Shah Rukh Khan needs to learn how to deal with the situation he finds himself in today from Jackie Chan. There is no shame in apologising for the mistakes of one’s son, and SRK should take a lesson from the way Jackie Chan handled such a crisis in his life.
Okay so you condemn Chinese on your posts but then here you have actually made a superstar hailing from the same place who apparently has served as the “Ambassador of police” for the country as someone great (He is but for talent, & If you contest that he is International as well, I do not think I have to contest over Shahrukhs’s International posture) . Hence you are funnily supporting a Chinese Star
However, at the same time you are bringing one of our own down only to fit your propaganda? One of our own superstars who has actually been one of the country’s gems. I am just confused. So Indians have a lower value point than Chinese? Also, he has not brought out, for that matter none family members have given statements because it is tough for them. The Garewal thing was done in fun .
Okay. so again, are we as Indians worse than Chinese?
They aren’t saying being China better than India. Its the same situation for srk and jackie chan but the way of handling is different. And as you say that he’s the gem of the country, they have some responsibility. Just as he can say ” zuban kesari” so proudly why can’t he say sorry for his own child.
I am lambasted and in complete state of shock …what r u trying to say … What sanbeer is saying that father should feel no shame in being apologetic of his son’s action …be it Shahrukh or normal citizen. The reference of Jackie Chan was given in reference to his celebrity stats , which is shared by our own Shahrukh.
But u comparing Chinese vs India is very lame basis this article by Sanbeer
His son was proven guilty, also, the statements came way after the trials and the courts had found him locked with the gravity of the case. The trials are on, the family is still in the process and you are making judgements and conclusions. Giving time and containing patience is what is needed. I ain’t a fan, but some empathy to our own rather than a comparison could have gone a long way! However, good luck to the writer. Nothing is lame and everything is lame as per what suits the agenda and sails the boat :)
