China’s Global Times threatens India and then praises its military might, all in one breath

Troops, Global Times, China, India

As the summer season draws to a close, the untrained Chinese PLA troops stationed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and currently in a standoff with the Indian armed forces, have started to fear for the unforgiving winter season. To put up a brave front, Chinese state media and CCP’s mouthpiece Global Times has started publishing feature-length articles once again to posture its might. However, in doing so, the gossip magazine was forced to concede that India’s military strength might keep its troops on the border areas for a long-long time.

Reportedly, the fanciful article titled, ‘India sleepwalks on border issue: Global Times editorial’ starts off by subtly issuing threats to India. Calling out India for not making realistic demands, the op-ed reads:

“The border issue between China and India remains stuck. The root cause is that Indian side still hasn’t developed a correct attitude in the negotiations. It always makes unrealistic demands not in line with the real situation or its strength.”

However, by the end of the article, the Politburo writers have an epiphany and they are reminded of India’s masculine military power.

“The Chinese people know that both China and India are great powers with enough national strength to sustain a long-time border standoff with each other. Such mutual attrition is regrettable, but if India is willing to do so, China will keep it company until the end.” the article reads.

A new age India that China finds difficult to go toe to toe against

In Eastern Ladakh last year, India has made it clearly known to China that it is not dealing with the same country which it had defeated in the 1962 war. The India of 2021 is dramatically different from what China has been used to dealing with. Yet, an authoritarian Xi Jinping and his conscripted troops keep trying their luck with the Indian Army and they keep getting thrashed.

200 Chinese troops thrashed

Reported by TFI, the Indian and Chinese troops once again squared off in an intense face-off last week in which around 200 PLA soldiers were intercepted close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC). However, this misadventure of China ended in a great shame. According to News18, a few troops from China were temporarily detained by Indian soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang, after around 200 of them crossed over into the Indian side from Tibet and attempted to damage unoccupied bunkers.

The Arunachal Pradesh incident took place between the border pass of Bum La and Yangtse, close to the LAC. Indian troops “strongly contested” the Chinese soldiers’ incursion into Indian territory. It would not be an overstatement to say that by a strong contestation, the highly placed Indian defence sources meant that physical blows of Indian soldiers landed squarely on Chinese cheeks, forcing them to retreat to their side of the border.

As a result, the 13th Corp Commander-level meeting between the two countries failed to achieve any results. Since then, the entire Chinese state machinery has been ranting at the top of its hoarse voice, attempting to drown the thrashing of last week.
