The T20 World Cup has just started, and India’s cricket fans are anxiously waiting for the team to finally bag an ICC trophy after the Indian cricket team lost many successive tournaments in knock-out phases.
However, netizens are now losing their cool over a video tweeted by Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli.
Kohli to teach how to celebrate a meaningful Diwali
Virat Kohli has shared a video on his Twitter handle prepared in association with Pinterest. In the video, he can be heard saying, “It’s been a tough year for all of us all around the world but especially in India with wave 2 hitting hard in 2021. As we get ready for Diwali this festive season, I’ll be sharing some of my tips for you to celebrate with loved ones and family. Stay tuned on Pinterest and pass the light.”
The Indian cricket team skipper also tweeted, “Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing a series of my personal tips for celebrating a meaningful Diwali with loved ones and family. Stay tuned by following my Pinterest profile ‘viratkohli'”.

Netizens lose their cool
However, Kohli’s tweet about sharing tips on how to celebrate a meaningful Diwali hasn’t gone down well with some netizens who say that they don’t need any tips on how to celebrate the ancient festival.
One of such social media users tweeted, “Virat Kohli says he will share tips of how to celebrate a “meaningful Diwali.” We don’t need celebrities to teach us about the “meaningfulness” of festivals Hindus have been celebrating for 1000’s of years. Its about time they get the message.”

Another user tweeted, “We can’t tell Virat Kohli how he should play but Kohli should teach us how exactly we should celebrate Diwali..”

In fact, some social media users started trending a hashtag #SunoKohli while criticising the Indian cricket team skipper for his remarks. One of the users also tweeted an old photo of Kohli bursting a cracker. The user tweeted, “No Hindu celebrates Diwali without doing the Pooja that has to be done. It is only AFTER the pooja is done that people burst crackers, so don’t teach us ‘meaningful diwali’ lessons. Don’t dictate us how to celebrate our festivals, we know it better…!”

The Indian cricket team skipper’s tweet about Diwali has certainly not gone down well with several users, who believe that they should be allowed to celebrate the most popular Hindu festival the way they want. Many netizens are therefore not really excited by the cricketer’s tips for the celebration of a meaningful Diwali.
