A maker or a breaker: Prashant Kishor’s double game with Congress lands Luizinho Faleiro in TMC

A few days back, former Congress leader and ex-chief minister of Goa Luizinho Faleiro jumped ships to join Trinamool Congress in Kolkata. Interestingly, it was political strategist Prashant Kishor and his group I-PAC who approached Luizinho to switch to Mamata Banerjee’s party. Thus, it seems like it is Prashant Kishor who is driving the Congress Party into the ground.

Prashant Kishor helped Falerio to join TMC

Faleiro, along with several other leaders close to him switched sides and joined Trinamool Congress in Kolkata on Wednesday. Luizinho Faleiro, after joining Trinamool Congress, said, “Today I am starting a journey with Didi because Goa needs a credible alternative. I request her to come to Goa to protect the identity and heritage of Goa.”

Welcoming Luizinho in Trinamool Congress, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter and said: “It’s a matter of great pride for me to welcome Former Goa CM, 7-time MLA and stalwart Goan leader Shri @luizinhofaleiro to the Trinamool Congress family. Together we will stand up for every Goan, fight divisive forces and work towards ushering in a NEW DAWN for Goa.”

However, a day after Falerio joined TMC, he told the media that it was political strategist Prashant Kishor and his group I-PAC who approached him to switch to Mamata Banerjee’s party. He said, “Of course, he had approached me. Just a few days back.”

While interacting with the media, Mr Faleiro had said, “Believe it or not I never met them (Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee). They are great leaders. They are not great leaders of Trinamool but great national leaders. But I did not meet them. I met I-PAC, I met Mr Prashant Kishor of I-PAC (Indian Political Action Committee). I met him. Just before I took the decision, we had the interaction.”

Prashant Kishor: A maker or a breaker?

With these claims made by Falerio, the question arises that is Prashant Kishor who has been influencing major decisions within the Indian National Congress, slowly disintegrating the aged-old  party? Considering prior instances where Prashant Kishor has caused a lot of damage to Punjab Congress, it can be assumed that he is not a maker but a breaker in the Congress party.

Earlier reported by TFI, it seems Captain Amarinder Singh’s fortunes in Punjab were sabotaged by the Congress high command with the help of Prashant Kishor. Ever since the number cruncher was appointed as principal adviser in the rank and status of a cabinet minister to Captain, media reports had been rife with news of growing discontent amongst the Punjab Congress ranks regarding the decision. The fire soon became uncontrollable for Captain Amarinder Singh, who was forced to clarify to the state unit as a whole that Kishor will have no hand in ticket distribution.

However, the damage was done, and discontent within the Congress’ Punjab unit only grew here on, ultimately precipitating the appointment of Navjot Singh Sidhu as the state unit’s president, and most recently, resulting in the removal of Captain Amarinder Singh as chief minister.

Mamata’s Man Friday Prashant Kishor

It is pertinent to note that it is Prashant Kishor who handed the victory in the 2021 assembly elections to the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. It has been reported that Prashant Kishor and his I-PAC will work with Mamata Banerjee and the party’s all India general secretary Abhishek Banerjee till 2026. He will also play a significant role in the 2024 Lok Sabha poll to ensure the political impact of Mamata Banerjee.

Mamata is up with a plan to overtake the tidal Modi wave. Prashant Kishor and Mamta Banerjee walk hand in hand because of their ideologies against BJP and they have come together to fight against the government. Congress, unaware of the fact that they are being used by the TMC chief as per her convenience, is all set to welcome Kishor into the party.

How Prashant Kishor embarrassed the Congress in Uttar Pradesh’s 2017 assembly elections has hardly been forgotten by anyone, and history seems to be repeating itself all over again. Ever since Kishor began influencing decision-making within Congress, the party has been disintegrating. Ironically, it is Rahul Gandhi who is helping Kishor in driving the Congress party into the ground.
