As one’s doom approaches, the intellect works against one’s best interest. The opposition which is assumed to be united after the meeting of TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, has launched a united attack on the Vice President. They have left no stone unturned to disrupt the proceedings of Parliament for the last two weeks but had to sit empty handed. The inability to counter the ruling government on valid issues with concrete facts has led the opposition to desperation and helplessness. This desperation becomes quite visible with the no-confidence motion brought by opposition against the Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu.

The opposition parties, chockful of internal issues, keep targeting the government on Pegasus issue and are not letting Parliament to function properly. They are causing losses to the Parliament as well as the taxpayers by disrupting the proceedings. Time and again, the ruling party has refuted the claims by the opposition and ended the discussion. Additionally, they do not want anyone to disrupt the parliamentary proceedings. Rebuffed by the government, the opposition lost the calm and out of desperation, the parties are planning to bring the no-confidence motion against Venkaiah Naidu.
As per the reports by News 18, Derek O’Brien has stated that the central government is not allowing Parliament to run. It’s not about how many times they are calling Opposition, it’s important what will be the content of Parliament, the TMC MP said. On the contrary, the ruling BJP stated that Opposition is not allowing Parliament to run. The tussle is on and in this case if no confidence motion against chairman is brought, then it is clear that it will be a stormy session next week too.
When the TMC stepped in with the move to bring a no-confidence motion, the Congress along with other opposition parties jumped on to the bandwagon and are trying to make the most out of it. Little do they know; they will end up making joke out of themselves.
Earlier this year, during a session of Rajya Sabha, when IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was reading a statement on the alleged snooping using Pegasus, TMC MPs had torn the papers and flung them into the air. In the aftermath of this incident, Venkaiah Naidu has suspended TMC MP Santanu Sen for the rest of the Monsoon Session.
Miffed by the decision, TMC was seeking an opportunity to take revenge and no-confidence motion is nothing but a means to satisfy its ego. However, this step by opposition is not going to hurt either the BJP government or Venkaiah Naidu. This motion will be rejected because the only purpose of the opposition is to carry forward the propaganda and politics of protest.
Looking at the constitution of Rajya Sabha, as far as the position of NDA is concerned, BJP itself possess 96 seats in the Rajya Sabha. If the members of the NDA alliance are included, this number elevates to 145. Thus, it can be said that BJP or NDA does not need to bother, and the no-confidence motion is not going to make much difference. The opposition is only adopting the strategy of pressure.
The desperate attempts of opposition to waste the time of Parliament and cause loss to the taxpayers as well, makes it all clear that they are digging a hole for themselves and will not gain the trust of the people of the country ever. Rather than focusing on something constructive and clear their anti-hindu and anti-national image, they are beating around the bush which will further result in no votes and all failure in 2024 general elections. The newly formed united opposition will soon witness the downfall because of their desperate and irresponsible behavior towards the nation.
