The Congress party has strictly asked its MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to ensure payment of their contributions to the party fund and has also issued austerity directives for its office-bearers, as a step to boost its party money amidst severe cash crunch.

Reports state that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) sent a reminder to its MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha this week, that they should make their annual payments regularly. What seems to have created a problem is that Congress has a large number of new members of Parliament who are not aware of their contribution obligations. This is based on the Manmohan Singh committee on party funding, where every MP has to make an annual payment of Rs.50,000 besides getting two sympathizers to contribute Rs.2,000 each.

The AICC further announced a set of austerity measures to party office-bearers on travel and lodging, asking its own staff to cut down on spending. AICC secretaries, adjuncts to the general secretaries, have been asked to spend at least 15-20 days per month in the states they have been assigned to.

The states have also been designated as their headquarters in place of the AICC. It was further instructed that up to a distance of 1,400 km, AICC secretaries will have to travel by train. They can avail air travel for distances beyond 1,400km, and that too only for two times in a month.

Netizens on hearing this announcement started trolling the Congress on Twitter.

One Twitter user, referring to Rahul Gandhi’s recent cycle publicity stunt in the Parliament, tweeted, “Might this have anything to do with Pappu riding bikes? Squinting face with tongue, Facing crunch, Congress issues austerity notice | India News – Times of India”

Another Twitter user tweeted, “You & I pay for Pappu’s fuel & travel, What this means is Congress CMs aren’t scamming enough, When in power Karnataka, a certain Power Minister would openly take cash in suitcases for “party fund”. He’s the blue-eyed boy of #AntoniaMaino though he’s always red-eyed from drinking”

It is quite interesting that even after allegedly looting India and its masses for almost 60 years of misrule, corruption and scams, the Congress party is now left with no money. Party funds are running dry and the party strategies are solely responsible for this. The private and corporate Congress players did not put their money in a performing asset; even after years of corruption instead of spending money on the development or progress of the nation, they chose to spend their resources on campaigning against the BJP which further failed miserably. The situation of Congress is such that the party higher-ups might end up encouraging and pushing party leaders to indulge in corruption in order to meet the expenditure and gain funds.
