The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has left no stone unturned to fight against the BJP government. She is vigorously trying to involve herself in national politics and is probably aiming to become the next Prime Minister. Recently, she stepped in with few strategies including an alliance with Congress. She has been rallying opposition leaders to rise against the BJP. But little does she know; no matter what kind of antics she tries to pull, BJP’s victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha election is ensured.
Two days back, Banerjee met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to rally them for an anti-BJP coalition ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. After the meeting, she interacted with the journalists and said, “When elections near, the Opposition parties will decide. The country will fight Narendra Modi. There will be many faces to fight against him… The BJP may be big in size, but from the political angle, the Opposition will be stronger. They will make history.”
As far as the national politics is concerned, Congress stands nowhere in front of BJP. Thus, if Congress makes an alliance with the TMC and throw itself in a fight against the BJP on the 200 odd seats, the party will be left with nothing. In the 2019 general elections, the Congress party contested from over 400 seats and won only 52 seats. Thus, if the contested seats are reduced to around 200, the party could get restricted to merely 20-30 seats leading to its near annihilation in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

However, if the opposition proceeds with Mamata as the leader, the results will be even more disastrous, and the strategy will fail miserably. TMC Chief will have to return empty-handed in 2024 general elections and that too, because of her own image. Banerjee has always been in controversy for her statements against the army and central forces. In 2016, FIR was lodged against Banerjee for maligning the Indian army. The FIR stated that Banerjee had “attacked the Indian Army in an unprecedented manner, denouncing their rights, privileges, stature and denigrating their constitutional position in the eyes of the general public.”
Earlier this year, the Election Commission had banned Mamata Banerjee from campaigning for 24 hours over poll code violations after her remarks against central forces. Miffed by the ban, Banerjee had threatened to sit on a dharna against “the undemocratic and unconstitutional decision”.
Moreover, the outreach of Mamata Banerjee is quite limited. The northern part of the country hardly knows who Mamata Banerjee is. One of the reasons for her limited outreach is her poor communication skills. She fails to communicate with the masses and has a language barrier. In addition to that, Banerjee possesses an anti-Hindu image which will ultimately lead her to disapproval by the Hindu community of the nation. She has always been vocal against chanting of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and a few of the people were also detained for the same.
Banerjee’s often repeated ‘outsiders’ jibe against the BJP had also caught the controversies. In her statements, she referred to the BJP as well as the people from UP and Bihar as outsiders. The irony is TMC Chief now, is preparing to grab vote share from these outsiders only.
Mamta’s politics has always been restricted to West Bengal. The state politics and the party has always been her priority over the Nation. Jay Prakash Majumdar, BJP’s Bengal vice-president said “While taking oath, she had to swear that she would stay above party and politics and work for all people and treat them equally. Now that she wants to act as a politician, she should first resign as chief minister.”
After winning three assembly elections in Gujarat, Modi was rolled in as Prime Ministerial candidate by the BJP for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Further, he became the PM of India and is serving the nation for 7 years. If Mamata wants to follow the footprints of Narendra Modi, she has to remember that Modi is the Pan India leader. During his tenure as CM for 15 years, Gujarat emerged as the top state on the grounds of the development. On the contrary, Mamata’s contribution to Bengal’s development is zero.
With the victory of TMC in Bengal Assembly elections, the opposition parties, including the Congress, think that Mamata can replace Narendra Modi as future PM. However, the Gandhis as well as Mamata have completely forgotten the fact that Modi has a long resume of development to his credit, and Mamata has the burden of chaos in Bengal.
In a nutshell, Mamata Banerjee may have defeated the BJP in Bengal, but if the speculations of her being the face of the opposition are true, then the BJP will hit the jackpot. All the chaos will end with the destruction of the Congress at the national level along with a historic victory for PM Modi and BJP in the 2024 general elections.
