Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Varanasi while addressing the IIT-Banaras Hindu University on Thursday, heaped praise on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his commendable management of the Covid situation and also for the overall development of the state in the past four-and-a-half years.

The Prime Minister while addressing the mass at the IIT-Banaras Hindu University ground said, “UP, which has more population than some countries in the world, not only tackled the second wave of Covid but also checked its spread. The state conducted maximum testing and is a front runner in vaccinating the people”.

PM Modi spoke about the overall development of medical infrastructure in the state, where tackling diseases like encephalitis used to be historically difficult. He was impressed by Yogi’s dedicated efforts for state’s welfare and development, maintaining the state’s in law and order, controlling the menace of mafia elements by the Rule of law and establishing a kind of atmosphere that attracts investments in the industrial sector, the Prime Minister said, “The list of development work is so long that one really finds it difficult to choose what to count and what to leave out.”

PM Modi further also complimented Yogi for personally monitoring the progress of development projects in Kashi. He said it was because of the UP Chief Minister’s dedication and able administration that the state was getting investment. He stressed the fact that UP has the highest testing and vaccination in the country based on the UP government’s free vaccine campaign ‘sabko vaccine, muft vaccine’.

Although there doesn’t seem to be a credible source suggesting this yet a new narrative has recently started gaining momentum in Uttar Pradesh. Certain media houses are spreading the idea of a supposed conflict between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. On 4th June, The Wire published another article based on baseless grounds. The headline of the article read, “Will RSS Be Able to Defuse Brewing Modi vs Yogi Tensions in Uttar Pradesh?”

Another article was published on the same date in Deccan Herald. The headline of this article read, “The curious turn in UP politics with Yogi-Modi stand-off”. The article said, “Yogi should remember the fate of Kalyan Singh who was reduced to a minion after he revolted against Vajpayee”. Both these articles were written by Sharat Pradhan without any clear evidence, based on speculation.

There are multiple bias sources creating a rumour about a conflict between Yogi Adityanath and Narendra Modi which does not appear likely. The Union and the State have actively collaborated on numerous projects. Most importantly, Yogi Adityanath was present right beside Modi during the greatest moment for the Hindutva movement thus far, while performing the Bhoomi Pujan for the Bhavya Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.

Narendra Modi’s relationship with Yogi Adityanath goes much further behind the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections in 2017. Back in July 2016, Modi while unveiling the statue of the late Mahant Avaidyanath in Gorakhpur, also revealed that his association with Yogi goes back to the time he was not active in politics.

Nevertheless, PM Modi slammed these fake news spreader media houses rumours by announcing the fact that the BJP has will go into the next elections with Yogi as their Chief Ministerial candidate. This is a spirited decision and would achieve multiple goals, as BJP is confident and optimistic that Yogi Adityanath is the best option. Moreover, there is no evidence at all to suggest that there is any kind of ongoing clash between the two.

It is very evident, however, how Yogi does not hesitate to express his gratitude toward the Modi government and Modi also has appreciated Yogi’s performance as CM on numerous occasions, the recent one was while inaugurating his 1500 crore project plan in Varanasi.
