The biggest impediment to the country’s education is the cancer of communism as its proponents have no interest in furthering the quality of education. The communists in the academia care more about the media eyeballs, protests and all things anarchy which would disrupt the imparting of education in India’s universities. The latest target of the communist academia is the Vice Chancellor of Visva-Bharati University as they are now after the VC’s life for his audacity to suspend a professor who hurled abuses at him during a meeting.

According to Visva-Bharati authorities, during a virtual meeting on June 8, Professor Manas Maity refused to follow the instructions of the Vice-Chancellor and even behaved inappropriately. The central university authorities claim that after being asked to speak on the issue of disbursement of salaries, Professor Maity had “hurled abuses” at the VC.

However, on June 12, Maity lodged an FIR against Vice-Chancellor Bidyut Chakraborty at Santiniketan police station for allegedly insulting and humiliating him and some other faculty members by making some “unsavoury comments” against them at the meeting.

On June 13, Maity was served a show-cause notice for his inappropriate behaviour and was asked to submit his reply in three-days time. Now, Maity has been served a second show-cause notice over his decision to make statements to the media over the case against the Vice Chancellor which was working against the best interests of the University.

A variety source while speaking to The Indian Express said, “A section of teachers affiliated to a left body are working to malign the VC. They are working against the interest of Visva-Bharati and only obsessed to create controversy by using media. Their voices are heard via media but not the majority of staff who are miffed over their conduct and want academic activities to continue. But these vast majority do not come out in open. We will put an end to such practices by the left association.”

Sensing an opportunity, the communist academia was instantly activated with the Jadavpur University Teachers Association (JUTA) and the All Bengal University Teachers Association (ABUTA) instantly putting their weight behind Professor Maity.

Parthapratim Roy, JUTA General Secretary, said, “Only those who are willing to sing the Vice-Chancellor’s praises in public will be allowed to do so. Others will be silenced through the use of charge- sheets, show-cause notices, and so on.”

He added, “the Vice-Chancellor’s charges against Professor Manas Maity, for allegedly saying uncomplimentary things at the meeting of June 8, are completely unfounded, since Professor Maity did not even speak at the said meeting.”

Earlier in January, 250 students and academics took out a rally to demand the resignation of the Vice Chancellor for allegedly trying to saffron’s Visva-Bharati University. The 3.5 km march was attended by former CPM MP Malini Bhattacharya, SFI state secretary Srijan Bhattacharya and All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation president Keshab Bhattacharya among others.

There should be no place for communism or any other ideology in academics. However, the communist academia is working overtime to spread its nefarious ideology on unsuspecting young minds which is a cause of concern for the country.
