‘Solo in UP and gathbandhan in Punjab’: With her declaration, Mayawati ends all her scope of securing Uttar Pradesh

BSP supremo Mayawati has said that her party will not ally with any other party for the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly election. Taking to Twitter, Mayawati announced that the rumours of BSP allying with AIMIM for the 2022 assembly elections are completely baseless and the party will contest alone. She said the except for Punjab, the party is not in alliance with any party in any other state.

BSP currently has only 7 MLAs left in the UP legislative assembly. In the last few months, 11 out of 18 MLAs of BSP have been sacked for anti-party activities and most of them blame Satish Chandra Mishra for it.

“Mayawati only does what Mishra tells her to do. He is destroying the party. The Muslims will abandon the BSP if this arrangement continues,” BSP’s suspended MLA Aslam Ali Rayani said.

In the last assembly election, SP and Congress came together and still could not defeat BJP. In fact, BJP scored its highest ever tally in UP in that election. Similarly, in 2019, SP and BSP came together, and still, they could win only 15 seats out of 80. In UP, unless all the opposition parties come together against BJP, they can’t even imagine putting a respectable fight against BJP.

Therefore, with the announcement that BSP would go solo in the 2022 UP polls, Mayawati has made sure that she sees no chance to win the election and she is not even trying to put a fight. And with this, the victory of the BJP is ensured.

In the last few years, Satish Chandra Mishra ensured the exit of one influential BSP leader after another. From Lalji Verma and Ram Achal Rajbhar to Nasimuddin Siddiqui, Brajesh Pathak, and Swami Prasad Maurya – all the people who were being seen as possible number two in the party were shown the exit door by Mayawati for anti-party activities, and now Mishra is the undisputed number two.

Mishra, who has never contested any election, takes care of day-to-day party activity, funding, and all other important party activities. He played a key role in crafting an alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab for the 2022 assembly election and was seen on stage with Sukhbir Singh Badal, and this signifies his stature in the party.

Mishra is against allying with any party in Uttar Pradesh for the 2022 assembly election and Mayawati agrees with him.

In 2017 Assembly polls, BJP managed to receive a gigantic mandate by securing a 41.4 per cent vote share, which translated to the BJP winning 325 seats in a 403-member state assembly. Nobody had anticipated such a huge wave of Yogi Adityanath in the state and the opposition and detractors were left dumbfounded at the magnitude of the victory.

Fast forward four years, Yogi has become the tallest leader in the country. From developing UP into an industrial state to reducing crime to tackling the first and second wave of the coronavirus pandemic effectively, UP has grown strength to strength with Yogi at the helm.

As reported by TFI, according to an ABP-C Voter survey conducted in March earlier this year, if elections were to held now, BJP would storm into power once again. The BJP is projected to win 289 seats in the 403-seat Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Meanwhile, SP is projected to be the second-largest party with 59 seats followed by BSP with 38 seats but not posing any real challenge to the BJP.

BJP can afford to let its guard down and go easy on the election preparations but ‘ruthless’ seems to be the keyword passed along from the party high command. The preparations have begun and despite the sorry situation of the opposition especially the BSP, the BJP does not want to leave any loophole in its electoral preparedness. There is no doubt that Yogi is storming back to power, the only question is, by what margin?
