Jitin Prasada, a senior Congress leader who was known to be close to Rahul Gandhi called it quits from the Grand Old Party on Wednesday and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. With the Uttar Pradesh state elections due early next year, the BJP has secured a significant Brahmin face to help the party consolidate upper caste votes in the crucial state. The Congress party knows that its entire strategy in Uttar Pradesh – of trying to secure the upper caste votes – has now fallen on its face. So, it is frustrating and is abusing Jitin Prasada.

Chhattisgarh Congress state unit decided to expose the party for its failure at overcoming dynastic and nepotistic politics. Taking on Twitter, it said, “You can remain in Congress only as a party worker, not a leader”. But the Chhattisgarh state unit of the Congress party was not half as infuriated as its counterpart in Madhya Pradesh. “Congress is happy with the departure of Jitin Prasada. It is a common action like throwing garbage in the dustbin,” the Congress’ official Madhya Pradesh handle said in a tweet which was deleted after outrage.

Earlier last month, former “business journalist” Supriya Shrinate, who joined the Congress party in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, abused BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra on an Aaj Tak debate program. “Tum do kaudi ke naali ke keede ho, are naali ke keede chup ho ja, naali ke keede kya bol rahe ho tum. Are Naali ka keeda. Chup jhoota kahinka (You are a two-bit gutter worm, keep quiet gutter worm. Shut up you liar),” the Congress leader said.

Most recently, on June 7, Congress MLA Mukesh Sharma, in an insult to all Odiyas, referred to Sambit Patra as “gutter Patra”. This led to Sambit Patra boycotting the News18 debate with Amish Devgan. The abusive culture prevalent within the Congress party has come to be exposed with such instances of the party’s leaders abusing and slurring those who belong to other political parties or share a contrarian viewpoint.

However, these Congress minions are learning the art of abuse from the Congress’ high command itself. Whether it be statements like “maut ka saudaagar” or “khoon ki dalali” hurled against Prime Minister Narendra Modi – the Gandhis themselves seem to be leading the path for small time Congress leaders to abuse their political opponents.

Speaking to the media after his induction, Jitin Prasada said that there was no point in staying in a party if a person cannot protect the interests of people. Moreover, the ex-Lok Sabha MP lauded the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and promised to work as a dedicated BJP member.
