A rather bizarre incident has come to light from Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district where a converted Christian son refused to perform the final rites of her departed mother, according to the Hindu customs. Reportedly, Saroj Devi’s son, Dharmendra Pratap Singh aka David, a converted Christian, wanted to bury his mother in a catholic way in a cemetery.
Even after being repeatedly pressured by the elders of the family, David refused to budge. Alternatively, it was Saroj Devi’s granddaughter Shweta Suman, a resident of Jharkhand that heard about the death of her ‘Nani’ and travelled 1100 kilometres to perform the “Mukhagni’ ceremony, according to the Hindu rituals at Laxmiganj Muktidham.
According to a Nai Dunia report, Suman has requested the SP to investigate the matter, following the pressurisation by her maternal uncle to perform the final rites in a Christian ceremony.

Saroj Devi had died on June 2 and according to Suman, she did not convert to Christianity till her last breath and therefore she deserved to be given the last goodbye in Sanatani traditions. When David wanted to cremate his mother, Shweta refused and protested against the decision. Shweta told the Hindu Jagran Manch that David did not tell the real address of the home so as to stall her. She also remarked that whenever she used to call her Nani, David used to snatch the phone away and cut short the conversation.
The incident proves once again that the menace of conversion is not only meant to convert gullible Hindus into faiths of other religions but to also sow seeds of discontentment against the very religion they are converting from.
Such was the extent of brainwash on Dharmendra that he refused to light the pyre of a mother who carried him through her womb for nine long months — fed him, brought him up with possibly a lot of love, affection and sacrifice. And yet, Dharmendra, now rechristened as David, nursed unspeakable hatred for Hinduism and Hindu traditions, that eventually made him stone-cold against the dead body of her mother.
Bringing a stringent mass anti-conversion law is the need of the hour, otherwise, nothing explains why a son would not perform her mother’s last rites. Surely, a simple conversion doesn’t make someone this apathetic towards their own kin or their traditions, unless some systematic brainwash exercise is feeding such evil virtues in the mind of new converts.
