Why CAA-NRC is needed: Bengaluru gang rape accused are all Bangladeshi migrants and possibly part of a sex trafficking ring

The Bengaluru police on Thursday arrested the individuals involved in a case of rape and torture of a woman in the city’s Ramamurthy Nagar. The said case, a gruesome video of which had gone extremely viral in Northeast India, was being used as a pretext for the usual culprits in defaming India and entire genders. For at least two to three days, the videos of the horrifying incident were allowed to freely circulate on social media – naturally outraging all those who saw them.

As it now turns out, India and its citizens were being maligned for no fault of theirs. On a purely case-specific basis, the outrage against India, its supposed “failed systems” and vivid commentary regarding the mentality of all “Indian men” was entirely misplaced and perhaps even motivated to a great extent. In the videos, which went super viral in the Northeast, the perpetrators were clearly heard conversing in a Bangladeshi lingo. That they were not Indians was evident from the video itself. The video had gone viral in the Northeast due to baseless rumours of the victim being from Nagaland, and after the crime, committing suicide in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur.

The beliefs of a very few people from the region – who were of the opinion that the perpetrators are Bangladeshis were proven right when the Bengaluru Police declared that all the perpetrators were from Bangladesh. As a matter of fact, even the victim – who is yet to be traced, is a Bangladeshi. “As per the information revealed so far, all of them are part of the same group and believed to be from Bangladesh. Due to financial differences, the culprits brutalised the victim, who is also said to be a Bangladeshi and was brought to India for human trafficking,” an official statement by Bengaluru Police said.

The revelation of Bangladeshis committing heinous crimes on Indian soil points not to a failure of India’s systems and ‘mentality’ as much as it does to the porous borders we share with Bangladesh – which makes it very easy for serial fence jumpers to cross over to India. If anything, this case once again reaffirms the immediate necessity to conduct a nationwide NRC exercise to identify genuine Indian citizens from those who have illegally entered the country – mostly from Bangladesh.

The molesters arrested by the Bengaluru Police have been identified as Mohammad Baba Sheikh, Riday Babo, Sagar and Akheel. The need for immediate notification of CAA rules cannot be fully stated after this incident. The implementation of CAA – granting citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighbouring Islamic nations becomes essential now, which would then pave the way for identifying and ridding the country of illegal immigrants.

Hypocritically, however, when the idea of a nationwide NRC was first raised, several people chose to stand against the Modi government’s allegedly ‘exclusionary’ policies. Today, when Bangladeshis have been caught red-handed committing crimes on our soil – the same people are busy defaming India. It is important to point out that the nabbed Bangladeshi molesters are merely the tip of a humongous iceberg. It, therefore, becomes an absolute and immediate necessity to send such illegal immigrants back home packing. However, social media activists will then rise up against the government for ridding India of such illegal aliens. For them, defaming and slandering India is a better method of correcting a wrong than addressing the fundamental issue – which is of illegal immigrants committing crimes on Indian soil unabated.

It is about time that those who do not like India and also refuse to cooperate when the government tries to reform the nation’s systems and secure its borders are picked up, packed along with the illegal aliens, and shipped off to whichever country they feel will treat them in a better fashion.
