Six BJP workers slaughtered in two days and the party’s weak response doesn’t suit it under the leadership of Amit Shah

What was long feared has turned into reality in West Bengal as Trinamool Congress (TMC) after winning the state assembly polls seems to have gone on a rampage by unleashing its blood-thirsty goons to indulge in arson, violence, murder and lynching of BJP as well as other opposition party workers. In the two days since the results were announced, six BJP workers have been slaughtered, and in total 11 have lost their lives including an ISF worker, which partnered with Congress and Left in the polls.

BJP national president JP Nadda will make a two-day visit to Bengal starting today to take stock of the situation. However, the party’s weak response which is in power at the centre has invited scathing criticism from all around. The centre has looked timid in taking strong, decisive action against the alleged terror of TMC goons and it certainly hasn’t looked good on the part of Home Minister Amit Shah.

The chain of events started after the initial trends suggested a landslide TMC victory. On May 2, a raucous TMC mob gathered around the BJP office in Hastings, Kolkata and later violence erupted in Arambagh where a BJP office was burnt to crisp.

The video of a BJP worker named Avijit Sarkar who had posted it on his Facebook page, hours before being lynched as sent shudders across the state as BJP supporters scurry around to seek refuge.

In the video, Avijit Sarkar had informed that he was a dog-lover and had adopted several street dogs, which he found on the streets in a helpless state. Pointing towards his pet, he said “I had brought her from Sealdah. She had given birth to some puppies. They slaughtered the puppies mercilessly.” The BJP worker broke down into tears.

Former Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta, who contested the Tarakeshwar seat sounded the panic button when he asked Amit Shah to rush security forces in the Birbhum district after TMC goons allegedly targeted BJP supporters.

“Alarming situation in Nanoor (Birbhum district) with more than a thousand Hindu families out in the fields to escape marauding mobs seeking to take it out against BJP supporters. Reports of molestation or worse of women. Amit Shah please rush some security to the area,” he tweeted.

It’s not like the central machinery had not anticipated such an outcome after the results. The TMC supremo in public had threatened the non-TMC voters during the election trail. Reported previously by TFI, according to a Zee News Hindi report, during a rally in Nandigram, where Mamata lost the assembly polls — she shot out a warning to the BJP voters saying she will come after them when the centrally deployed forces return to their bases after the election.

“I keep knowledge of every inch of the elections. After the election, the security personnel sent by the central government will go back, but if our government is formed then the BJP supporters will plead with folded hands for the central security forces to be stationed for a few more days so that they (BJP supporters) could be saved,” said Mamata Banerjee.

Although BJP has managed to leapfrog from three Seats in 2016 to 77 in the just concluded polls, the party and ground workers are still living in fear, praying for their lives. Reportedly, TMC has repeatedly engaged in the killing of opposition party members and what little we have seen in the last two days should be an indication enough for the upcoming five years as Mamata’s clan of thugs continue with their ‘reign of fear’. It is high time that the central leadership step in and arrest the slide.
