As the nation was trying to come to terms with the untimely and shocking passing away of senior journalist Rohit Sardana, NDTV India’s star anchor Ravish Kumar was in a zone of his own. Apparently, the man was facing some tough questions and decided to pour his heart out in a Facebook post, where he began by condoling the demise of Rohit Sardana and went on to insinuate why the likes of Sardana and others – afflicted by Covid-19, were passing away despite being under medical supervision. He made no secret of the fact that he had begun having reservations about the treatment regimens and medical techniques being employed by Indian doctors to treat Covid-19 patients.
Ravish Kumar, in a Hindi post penned primarily to remember Rohit Sardana, said that he was bewildered over how many ‘fit’ Indians were losing the battle to Covid-19. He wrote, “Are people not able to understand their symptoms, understand or not fully obey doctors’ advice or are entangled in more than one doctor’s advice? I wouldn’t like to say there was negligence.” Very quickly, Ravish shifted focus to the WhatsApp forwards being received by almost all Indians from doctors who they know.
“I’m constantly struggling with the question what’s lacking in home treatment due to such a large number of people going to hospital? WhatsApp forwards made by doctors are coming from many places. Which contains the names of many drugs. After that, whether there is a dialogue between the patient and the doctor or not. I am not a doctor. But what I’ve experienced myself while going through Covid seems like there’s a lack of communication between the patient and the doctor. The doctor is under a lot of pressure right now. And patients have become more doctors than doctors,” Ravish Kumar said.
Essentially, Ravish Kumar tried casting aspersions on the WhatsApp tips being given by doctors across the country to people they know, in order for them to be prepared if they were to get infected. This, according to Kumar, is what is leading to people dying. Doctors are not communicating enough with patients, according to Ravish Kumar – who is a perpetual pessimist and fearmonger by the way. It seems Ravish Kumar also edited his post, as screenshots shared by users of his original post also showed the man questioning doctors. He sought to know on what basis doctors were prescribing medicines and how the symptoms of patients were being monitored by them. Then, in the unedited post it seems, Kumar also sought to know what sort of a home treatment doctors were advising patients with, that many of the infected persons were being forced to admit themselves in hospitals.

If there is one man who can use human tragedy and the death of a fellow journalist to cast aspersions on the abilities of Indian doctors only to end up justifying his attack on the Modi government, it is Ravish Kumar. Nobody else in Indian media has the ability to spin such brazen agendas. Ravish Kumar has once again put the profession of journalism to shame.
