While the Western liberal ecosystem has started a smear campaign against Israel amidst the ongoing escalation of conflict between the Israeli military and Gaza-based terror group Hamas, New Delhi has come out in support of its ally Israel. India has condemned “all acts of violence” but has singled out the original provocation- “rocket attacks from Gaza”.
In today’s #UNSC meeting on events in East #Jerusalem & elsewhere, I mentioned:
➡️ Condemn all acts of violence, especially rocket attacks from #Gaza
➡️ Mourn tragic demise of Indian national in #Israel
➡️ Immediate de-escalation need of hour
➡️ Refrain from changing status-quo pic.twitter.com/n58LpezlJe— Amb T S Tirumurti (@ambtstirumurti) May 12, 2021
Hamas has fired in over 1,700 rockets, targeting Israeli civilians. In response, Israel has struck Hamas and other terror groups in Palestine. Meanwhile, Western liberal propagandists have started blaming Israel for the latest spate of violence, even though the Jewish nation is only protecting itself.
However, India showed signs of support for its key ally in the Middle East during Wednesday’s UN Security Council meeting. India’s Permanent Representative/ Ambassador to the United Nations TS Tirumurti tweeted about India’s position during the closely-watched meeting.
Tirumurti disclosed that he condemned “all acts of violence, especially rocket attacks from Gaza.” He also mourned the tragic demise of an Indian national in Israel, as a consequence of Hamas rocket attacks against the Jewish nation.
Tirumurti also appealed for “immediate de-escalation”, apart from advising the relevant sides to refrain from “changing status-quo.”
In a second tweet, Tirumurti also disclosed that he expressed concern about peripheral issues like “clashes and violence in Haram Al Sharif/Temple Mount”, and “evictions in Sheikh Jarrah & Silwan neighbourhoods” of East Jerusalem.
In addition to ⤴️, I also added:
🔹Old city also houses Al Zawiyya Al Hindiyya – The Indian Hospice
🔹Condemn rocket fire from Gaza
🔹Urge restraint of all parties & to adhere to #UNSC Res 2334
🔹Need to immediately resume direct peace talks
🔹Committed to two-state solution 2/2— Amb T S Tirumurti (@ambtstirumurti) May 11, 2021
India has also stressed the need to “immediately resume direct peace talks.”
The stand taken by India is in line with its diplomatic approach of promoting peace and de-escalation. Yet, there is something remarkable in how India picked up the latest Israel-Palestine skirmishes. India is no longer afraid of calling a spade a spade. While Tirumurti informed that India condemned all acts of violence, he has specifically mentioned that New Delhi condemned rocket fire from Gaza in both his tweets.
India’s UNSC remarks must be interpreted as a symbol of support to Israel. India supports peace dialogue, yet at the same time, it points out that Palestine is the real aggressor. New Delhi is ready to play a role in mediating peace, but it accepts that Hamas must be labelled the aggressor, and treated as such, in any peace effort.
