The Legal Rights Protection Forum (LPRF), a legal activism group, which last week, had requested the Centre to cancel the FCRA license of the Indian Medical Association(IMA) in light of its President, John Austin Jayalal’s zeal of promoting Christianity through hospitals, have now lodged a complaint against Dr Jayalal which has led to the issuing of summons to him by the Dwarka District Court in Delhi.
According to the legal activism group, Dr Jayalal was summoned for his comments emphasising on converting the Wuhan coronavirus infected patients to Christianity.
The LPRF, in its complaint, has sought the revocation of the Medical Practitioner’s License of the IMA President. The group claimed that since Dr Jayalal has openly declared his intention of splitting human beings into Christians and non-Christians and converting the latter to Christianity using every available opportunity, his license should be revoked.
In its plea to the Centre to revoke the IMA’s FCRA license, not only has LPRF flagged two interviews of Dr JA Jayalal given to Haggai International and Christian today respectively, but the legs rights body has also listed out Dr Jayalal’s controversial statements where he displays his love for evangelical activities.
Statements of Dr Jayalal like, “Government has not come forward to support COVID victims/lockdown difficulties but Church has taken care of that”, “We need more Christian doctors to work more in secular institutions, mission institutions, and medical colleges”, “I am working as a professor of surgery in a medical college, so it is also a good opportunity for me to carry on the principles of Christian healing there. I also have the privilege of mentoring graduates and the interns” and “Hindus are softcore, practice polytheism and hence easy to make them accept Jesus” to name a few have been flagged by the LPRF.
For the uninitiated, Haggai International is an international body, with the aim of “redeeming and transforming” every nation through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The IMA President, in an interview with Haggai International, said, “I deeply desire to be a living witness to God and encourage young medical students and doctors to receive Jesus as their personal saviour. I aim to be a witness for God in the secular organization I serve.” Haggai International, in the article, has also said, “Installed as president of the Indian Medical Association last December, Dr Jayalal sees it all as a platform to share the love of Jesus Christ.”
Why the IMA is allowing the same to happen, and how Dr Jayalal continues to be the president of the association as of this moment are questions that are yet to be answered.
