After being exposed in oxygen scandal, AAP is now stoking anti-government passions with posters and auto rickshaw ads

The Aam Aadmi Party is known for crisis profiteering and shamelessness. But it crossed all the limits when it asked Auto drivers and daily wage labourers to post anti-Modi posters across Delhi, and then did not even pay them promised wages.

“I did not get the money promised. Police took the posters, and my bike is still at the police station. Police said we cannot put up posters and banners during the lockdown,” said Rahul Tyagi, who was promised 600 rupees by AAP councillor Dhirender Kumar’s office on May 11 for posting anti-Modi posters in Kalyanpuri.

While Arvind Kejriwal always whines about the partiality from the centre despite getting the majority of resources, his party and the Government of Delhi is busy posting anti-Modi posters at a time when Delhi is facing its worst-ever crisis with almost every second or third family having a patient of Coronavirus.

For the last 7-8 years, Kejriwal always claims that he has substantially improved education and health in the city of Delhi. However, these improvements are visible only on paper and when the test comes, the health, as well as education infrastructure, fails. The board results of Delhi schools had only worsened since Kejriwal took over and the improvement on the health front was visible to everyone during the Coronavirus crisis.

For the last few weeks, the government of Kejriwal was claiming a shortage of Oxygen. However, after the oxygen audit in the national capital was given a green light by the apex court, the Kejriwal-led government of Delhi took a rather radically different stance on the issue of medical oxygen. From claiming that Delhi required over 700 MT of oxygen daily, the Aam Aadmi Party government said that it suddenly found itself in the luxurious position of being an oxygen surplus state, and as such, Delhi’s daily surplus quota of oxygen could be diverted to other, more ‘needy states’.

Addressing a digital press conference, Manish Sisodia said Thursday that the Delhi government had written to the Centre to divert the surplus oxygen to other, more needy states. “Today, as a responsible government, we have written to the Centre saying we need 582 metric tonnes instead of 700 metric tonne oxygen, and the extra oxygen we are receiving – above the 590 metric tonne quota – should be given to other states which need it more,” Sisodia remarked.

Less than a month ago, on April 18, the Kejriwal-led government of Delhi had requested the Centre to supply the national capital with 700 MT of medical oxygen daily. The number of active cases back then stood at around 74,941. Now, when the active cases in the national capital are hovering around the 82,000 mark, the AAP government has come out and said that Delhi requires not more than 582 MT of oxygen, calling on the Centre to divert the excess oxygen to other states.

According to an India Today report, the Centre is of the belief that the AAP-led Delhi government has been procuring excess medical oxygen way above its daily requirements and diverting the same to the black market. A central government source was quoted as saying, “Inefficiency in use and diversion reports indicate that oxygen is being diverted to the black market or being hoarded by ministers of the Delhi government themselves.” The Centre also claimed that it was for this very reason that the Delhi government was opposing an audit of medical oxygen in the national capital.

With the audit of medical oxygen in Delhi now underway, the Kejriwal government and his party is busy posting anti-Modi posters across the city of Delhi, and even for that, they are not paying the labourers. Every time one expects that AAP and Kejriwal would rise up to a crisis and solve it without cheap politics, they stoop to a new low.
