Shivraj government books Congress leaders who threatened Dr. Shrivastava. Doctor resumes duty

After Madhya Pradesh’s one of the finest doctors, Dr Yogendra Shrivastava was yelled upon by a couple of Congress leaders, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government has decided to crack the whip and not take the issue lightly. A Police FIR has been filed against the Congress leaders for heckling JP Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Shrivastava.

In a move that displays the Madhya Pradesh government’s no-nonsense approach, the state Police registered a case against Congress MLA PC Sharma and former Corporator Guddu Chauhan after they allegedly heckled Dr Shrivastava.

The FIR has been filed under sections 353 and 189 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The decision to file the FIR was taken after the Madhya Pradesh Police went through the CCTV footage and spoke to the eyewitnesses.

Last week, a video that went viral, showed PC Sharma and former Congress Corporator Yogendra Chouhan shouting at Dr Yogendra Shrivastava over the death of the Covid-19 patient who was brought to the Government JP hospital.

The patient, who was in critical condition, died while being treated. That was reason enough for the Congress goons to verbally harass a senior doctor, who also happens to be the nodal officer in charge of Covid ward at the Government JP Hospital in Bhopal.

Following the verbal assault, Dr Yogendra Shrivastava tendered his resignation. Condemning the incident, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called for people to boost the morale of doctors instead of demoralising them during the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, Congress leader PC Sharma has said that he did not speak rudely to the doctor and was only involved since the patient was a member of his Assembly constituency.

What was even more brazen is the fact that PC Sharma went on to blame a supporter of his for the incident, and also justified the same saying that any ‘sensitive person’ will react similarly following somebody’s death. “A supporter of mine spoke loudly to the doctor following which I apologised to him. A patient of my constituency died this afternoon. In such circumstances won’t a sensitive person get angry? A poor patient is being asked to go to a private hospital, nobody is talking about this,” Sharma claimed.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wasted no time and paid a visit to Dr Yogendra Shrivastava, and requested him to take back his resignation. After much convincing, the senior doctor relented and withdrew his resignation and resumed his duty.
