Shailendra Singh, the man who was destroyed by Mukhtar Ansari finally has his revenge

Mukhtar Ansari, Shailendra Singh

Former DSP Shailendra Singh had tendered his resignation in the year 2004 owing to tremendous pressure mounted on him by the then Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh government. Singh had, in a lethal mission, recovered a light machine gun (LMG) with 200 live cartridges from a gangster and BSP MLA Mukhtar Ansari’s gunner Munar Yadav. He had then booked the mafia-don under POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act). Yet, what followed was a hideous show of political interference on the part of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government, which threatened DSP Shailendra Singh with dire consequences if he did not take back the case against Ansari.

A false case was registered against Shailendra Singh for trying to enter the crosshairs of Mukhtar Ansari and his friends in the state’s polity. It was only under the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in UP that the process of withdrawing cases against Shailendra Singh was initiated in 2017. Last month, the case against the former DSP was withdrawn, culminating his long struggle against injustice and mafia rule in Uttar Pradesh which flourished under the SP and BSP regimes of the past.

Shailendra Singh’s resignation letter dated February 11, 2004, has now gone viral on social media. In the letter, the former DSP said that criminalisation of every sphere of life was now noticeable and that the police department was not untouched by the same. “This is the reason why the common people are unable to get justice, and this worries me,” he added.“Hence, I am also unable to discharge my duties with sincerity and honesty,” he had written and requested seniors to accept and approve his resignation. Singh had claimed that Ansari procured a light machine gun for the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai.

In a recent interview with a TV channel, Shailendra Singh broke down remembering his hardships. He said that among politicians, after Yogi Adityanath it was only Narendra Modi who asked him, “Shailendra tum parivar kaise paalte ho (how do I manage to run my family, Shailendra)?”.Singh broke down and told the news reporter that only he knows how he has struggled through the challenges and situations brought by these events. In the interview, Singh was heard saying that his team recovered the gun, and that he was forced to take back the case and told that if he didn’t, he will be put in jail: “hamari team ne jaan par khelke recover kiya, aur uske baad is tarah se ho raha hai ki aap case wapas karo nahin to aapko jail mein daal denge…”

After 17 long years, Shailendra Singh has finally been served justice by the BJP government of Uttar Pradesh. Had it not been for Yogi Adityanath, Singh would still have been struggling to get justice. Meanwhile, Mukhtar Ansari – the mafia don at the centre of making life a living hell for Singh for the past 17 years is slated to be brought to Uttar Pradesh soon, where rest assured, fresh and hot justice will be served to him as well.
