Contrary to boastful claims of the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government, an RTI reply has now debunked the lies of the Kejriwal government in Delhi regarding the construction of new hospitals and flyovers since it came to power in 2015. For years now, ‘Chief Minister’ Arvind Kejriwal has himself been going around town and claiming that his government has made a grand infrastructure push in the national capital by building multiple hospitals and no less than 23 flyovers in less than five years. Now, it has come to light that all these claims were allegedly white lies.

RTI pleas filed by one Tejpal Singh revealed that contrary to the tall claims made by the incumbent AAP government, no hospital had been commissioned, nor had any flyovers been constructed in Delhi between the years 2015 to 2019. The first RTI reply from the Directorate of Health Services, Delhi confirmed that “as per information available in Hospital cell of DGHS, it is informed that No new hospital has been commissioned under Delhi government, during the period from April 2015 to 31st March 2019.” This is the period of Arvind Kejriwal’s first tenure as Chief Minister.

A second RTI reply received by Tejpal Singh from the Public Works Department, Delhi, revealed that the department has not undertaken any flyover construction work in the national capital between April 1, 2015, to March 31, 2019. In 2019, while inuagurating the 2.85 km signal-free new RTR Flyover, CM Kejriwal had claimed, “In 15 years, the Sheila Dikshit government built 70 flyovers. In the last four-and-a-half years, our (AAP) government has built 23 flyovers.”

The claims of the Aam Aadmi Party, of having added 40,000 new hospital beds in the national capital also stand debunked, now that the RTI reply has made it clear that no new hospitals were commissioned from 2015 to 2019. The Kejriwal government seems to have really done no actual work and has instead focussed on PR to make people believe that it is actually governing and developing Delhi. The RTI replies, although shocking, reveal the sad state of affairs which prevail in Delhi, and how an inept government is allegedly caught blatantly lying to the people. In order to further expose the AAP government for its falsities, citizens must file relentless RTIs. Arvind Kejriwal and his government have been having it too good for too long. It is time that the people of Delhi start holding their Chief Minister accountable for his alleged lies.
