‘Evil Sanatana Dharma,’ Chidambaram crosses all limits after seeing BJP’s rise in Tamil Nadu

P Chidambaram – a senior Congress leader who is out on bail and is often credited with widely publicising the term ‘saffron terror’ has now made yet another anti-Hindu statement. Even by his already fallen standards, Chidambaram, with recent tweets has fallen to a new low for which the people of India will neither forgive him nor his party. As Tamil Nadu votes today (April 6) in a single-phase election, the temperatures in the state are high and will remain so until the results are declared. To portray Congress as a true friend of the concept of ‘Dravidianism’, P Chidambaram has resorted to calling Sanatana Dharma a ‘poisonous ideology’.

In an apparent dig at BJP MP Tejaswi Surya, who has reportedly been quoted as saying that the BJP wants to put an end to Periyarism in Tamil Nadu, Chidambaram on Monday tweeted, “I strongly condemn the statement of a BJP leader and a Member of Parliament that the BJP has come here to eradicate ‘Periyarism’ (Periyar policy) in Tamil Nadu. Father Periyar was the one who fought and won against the poisonous policy of ‘Sanatana Dharma’.” (Translated by Twitter from Tamil)

The tweet by Chidambaram has really exposed Congress’ inherent fears. The BJP, of late, has been making a rather massive South India push. In Tamil Nadu, it is fighting it out on the sole agenda of Hindutva. Freeing Hindu temples and defeating toxic sub-nationalism, while invigorating Hindu pride in the state are some of the issues which the BJP is promising. Most definitely, the party is steadily rising in the state. A steady rise of the BJP in any state means that it is winning elections on its own in the state is not a far reality. This is what has got the Congress and DMK all worked up.

However, why P Chidambaram has been accorded the freedom in Tamil Nadu to make such brazen remarks against Hindus and their belief system is something which remains incomprehensible for many. Hindus form over 88 per cent of the population in Tamil Nadu, and yet, leaders like Chidambaram seem to be getting away by calling Sanatana Dharma a ‘poisonous’ and toxic ideology. This begs the question, are Hindus doing enough to ensure that fraudsters/scamsters of the Congress party along with their allies like the DMK do not dare make nonsensical statements against Hinduism?

The Congress and DMK’s ally Thirumavalavan, meanwhile, talks of abolishing Sanatana Dharma. The man, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, took to Twitter to say, “Let’s defeat the Sanathana forces in the election field to protect the rights of women!” More than anything else, the DMK-Congress alliance in Tamil Nadu is one that stands for the singular purpose of dismantling Sanatana Dharma.

This is not the first time that P Chidambaram has made anti-Hindu remarks. After the Malegaon blasts, for which Sadhvi Pragya and Lt. Col. SP Purohit were arrested as part of an alleged conspiracy to prove that Hindu terrorism exists, the then Home Minister of the UPA government coined the term ‘Saffron Terrorism’.

Even after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, P Chidambaram had said that the Modi government made legislative changes in the two new Union territories “because the region is dominated by Muslims”. Chidambaram alleged, “Had there been a Hindu majority in Kashmir, BJP wouldn’t have touched it (Article 370), but because there is a Muslim majority in Kashmir, they abrogated it.”

Hindus of Tamil Nadu must make it a point to defeat anti-Sanatana forces in the state. It will be a shame of the highest order if even after the statements of the Congress leader, the anti-Hindu alliance performs well, or worse, wins the state.
