The United States of America is known for taking high ground on a variety of issues such as democracy, human rights, international cooperation, development funding and so on, especially when the country is led by a Democratic Party president. After the Biden administration came to power, it promised to adhere to values that the country shunned in Trump’s realpolitik. And, under Biden, the country started lecturing the world on climate change, human rights and other similar issues.

However, all this posture to regain the ‘moral high ground’ was lost with the Biden administration refusing to supply the raw material to produce vaccines. Despite being aware of the fact that India helped the world with more than 36 crore doses of Coronavirus vaccines – a lot of which were given free to poor countries – and mass manufacturing of vaccine is essential for saving lives in India as well as in other countries, the Biden administration refused to lift the embargo on export of raw material.

This led to outrage on Twitter with many influential users pointing to the hypocrisy of the Biden administration and telling it to not take moral high ground ever again. Many users also highlighted the fact that India supplied HCQ when America needed the drug and the then President Trump thanked Prime Minister Modi for it.

#America_Expsoed emerged as among top trends with many people slamming the hypocrisy and self-serving nature of the Biden administration.

Many users also pointed out that the United States denied almost everything – from supercomputers to nuclear cooperation – to India and ultimately, we developed indigenous capabilities.

Many people quoted that “to be a friend of America is fatal”.

The self-serving Biden administration, which in the times of peace and tranquility talks about cooperation, has shown that all it cares for is its interests, and therefore, Biden can no longer urge the countries around the world to make sacrifices on the issues like climate change, democracy, trade, and commerce.

Losing the moral high ground will hurt America dearly because it wants the cooperation of countries India on the two most important issues it faces – China and Climate change. In the last two decades, the Indo-US relations have been more than ‘transactional’ and was progressing towards “special relationship” but with Biden’s disastrous step, it will be back to transactional once again until a new President comes to White House.
