When art imitates life: Imran Khan is strengthening Pakistan-China ties by hosting a puppet show

Pakistan, China, puppet show

In what seems to be straight out of a parody movie, Pakistan, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of its diplomatic relations with China, is organising a puppet show – symbolic of the bilateral relations between China and Pakistan.

When art starts imitating reality, one is in for a ride. It is no secret that Pakistan is nothing but a vassal state for China which is colonising the Islamic country at a rapid pace. Hence, Pakistan and its administration with their infinite knowledge deemed it fit for the Pakistan embassy in Beijing to organise a puppet show to mark the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with China.

The celebrations for the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations were launched on 2 March by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and the puppet show aptly sums up the relationship shared between the two countries.

Recently, alarm bells went ringing in Pakistan when its once traditional ally, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) demanded that the country pay back its $1 million after the money reached its maturity.

WION reported that the top officials of the Pakistan government were in panic mode after the United Arab Emirates demanded its $1billion back. The amount which is deposited with the central bank of the country, the State Bank of Pakistan, had reached its maturity and the deadline to return the amount was March 12.

Perhaps realising that there is no chance Pakistan can pay back the loan, top Pakistani officials had made multiple attempts to reach out to their counterparts in the UAE including Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, however, the UAE has given the country a cold shoulder and has not even cared to give any response to the country.

Characteristically, Pakistan had pleaded to the Arab country that returning such a huge amount can severely impact its economic situation.

Last year, when Saudi Arabia demanded Pakistan to pay its loan back, the latter took a loan of the same amount from China to return the loan granted by Saudi Arabia, thereby further plummeting it into the clutches of China. Amidst depleting bilateral relations, even Saudi Arabia forced it to pay back $1 billion four months ahead of its repayment period, for which the latter comically took a loan of the same amount from China in order to payback the Saudi Kingdom.

However, Pakistan is in no mood to lose its long-standing ally China and is thus, organising a puppet show – symbolic of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
