If anybody thought that French President Emmanuel Macron and his cabinet was only making bold statements and not backing them up with any action should have their doubts cleared with the slew of actions undertaken by the French government in the week gone by. France, under Macron, has started investigating French liberal universities that spread Islamo-Leftism, which remain a problem in India as well.
The French government recently announced that it would launch an investigation into academic research of liberal universities that it says, feed Islamo-leftism tendencies that “corrupt society”. The lower house of parliament passed a tough draft law that will extend the state’s powers to shut down religious groups judged to be extremists.
“I think that Islamo-leftism is eating away at our society as a whole, and universities are not immune and are part of our society,” said Frederique Vidal, Minister for Higher Education. Referring to scholars of race and gender as well, Ms Vidal accused them of “always looking at everything through the prism of their will to divide, to fracture, to pinpoint the enemy.’’
As reported previously by TFI, the French government has long been of the view that the ideas on race, gender, post-colonialism, particularly those emanating from American universities are undermining the French identity.
Pushing and flooding the naïve and lofty ideas of leftist Americans on the world has been an inherent trait of the entire liberal American cabal. These ideas have given birth to a dangerous stripling in the form of ‘Islamo-Liberalism’ which was debated and rejected ferociously by the French PM after the beheading of Samuel Paty, and the subsequent meek reaction of countries around the world, barring India.
Macron has taken a tough stance on the issue of Islamic extremism and with textbook accuracy, the liberals around the world have turned against him. The same Macron who once was the champion of the liberal brigade has now become a far-right, conservative leader who has seemingly lost his way in the nationalism tide.
Albeit, the truth is far from it. While much-like India, entire Europe sees a rise in radical Islam-linked terrorism activities and yet remains mum on the core issue of the extremist ideology, Macron has shown the resolve to take the challenge heads on.
The American universities want France to embrace the debatable, virtue-signalling concept of multiculturalism. The concept is sound in its definition but when a foreign culture (Read: Islam) seemingly impinges upon one’s own beliefs, quick counter-actions are needed.
As explained earlier by TFI, France focuses on fundamental rights and core values like equality and liberty of its citizens. As a result, the European country defines itself as a secular state devoted to the idea that all of its citizens are the same under the law — to the extent that the government keeps no statistics on ethnicity and religion.
Whatever the benefits and faults of the aforementioned system are — for the subject experts to argue. However, force-feeding the notion that Islamo-leftism doesn’t exist is truly a Mephistophelian idea. The social utopia that these so-called American scholars have envisaged for the French society should go and take a rough gander at the statistics of French citizens killed by Islamic terrorist attacks in the last five years after the Charlie Hebdo attacks.
France has been on high alert ever since the January 2015 massacre at the satirical weekly magazine which coincidentally marked the beginning of a wave of jihadist attacks that has so far killed more than 250 people.
Emmanuel Macron has now become a beacon of hope for the people of France who suffer via the evils of a radical Islam which emanates from this misguided Islamo-leftism policy that incubates in the American Universities. And one can be optimistic that the draft law goes a long way in helping the French society return to normal.
The government of India should also take a leaf out of France’s book in tackling the menace of radical Islam. As reported by TFI, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has already said that he would study Macron’s anti-radicalism bill. Ideally, the next step should be to bring a similar legislative law in the country and then proceed to take on the think-tanks that espouse similar Islamo-leftist ideas by aping the universities of America.
