Rahul Gandhi fans the embers of Tamil separatism to bake his political bread

Rahul Gandhi, Tamil Nadu

As the Congress scion Rahul Gandhi kicks off campaigning for the upcoming Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, he has managed to find a new low altogether. He recently decided to fan the embers of Tamil separatism to bake his political bread.

It is no secret that the people of Tamil Nadu are fiercely protective of their culture and language — something which any person who has visited the state would tell you. However, it seems that Rahul Gandhi believes that the love of Tamilians for their culture and language precedes their love for India.

“PM Modi has no respect for culture, language and people of Tamil Nadu. PM thinks Tamil people and language are subservient to his ideas, his culture,” said the Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi.

He added, “We believe there are multiple cultures and languages. We believe all languages including Tamil, Hindi and Bengali have space.”

While the mainstream media is going wax lyrical over Rahul’s statement as they feel that he struck an emotional note with the people of Tamil Nadu. But the reality is that he is desperately trying to fan the embers of Tamil separatism. What does Gandhi mean by saying that the Prime Minister of the country is subservient to the state’s ideas and culture? The post of Prime Minister no matter who occupies it, is bound by oath to protect India which is the only culture and philosophy.

If Rahul had hurled such accusations against the BJP, no one would have batted an eye. But by dragging PM Modi, he has not only insulted the post of the Prime Minister of the country but has also quite clearly stirred the elements of Tamil separatism by claiming that the PM of India doesn’t respect the state’s culture and language. The Prime Minister’s respect for Tamilian culture was in full display during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Mamallapuram.

Rahul Gandhi also said, “Modi disrespects Tamil people. The NDA government wants to suppress Tamil culture, language and history. But we will not allow such disrespect.” It is as clear as hay, what Rahul is attempting to achieve with his provocative statements.

The INC has no ideology and hardly any dedicated voter base in Tamil Nadu and has decided to piggyback on the DMK and somehow come to power in the state. In 2016, the INC was dubbed as one of the key reasons why the DMK had lost the elections as the party bagged a meagre 8 seats out of the 41 seats it contested, thereby pulling down the alliance. Rahul Gandhi is now trying to secure a vote bank by stirring the pot of Tamil separatism.
