No, China hasn’t built a village on Indian soil within a year as alleged by Congress. The territory was ‘ceded’ to China in 1959

Over the past few years, the Indian National Congress in its zeal to discredit the Narendra Modi government, has often spread white lies which has been propagated by none other than party scion Rahul Gandhi himself. Fresh from his vacation, Rahul Gandhi claimed that China has built a village in Arunachal Pradesh, turns out, the area under scrutiny where a village has propped up, has been under Chinese occupation since 1959 – during the heydays of Jawaharlal Nehru.

Seemingly devoid of facts and yet again displaying his naivety, Congress scion Rahul Gandhi attacked the Central government over the alleged construction of a village by the Chinese in Arunachal Pradesh ‘within a year’. While there is no doubt that the area under scrutiny belongs to India, however, China has been continually occupying the area ever since 1959 – a fact which Rahul Gandhi is seemingly oblivious of.

“Those locations you are referring to have been under Chinese occupation since very-very long Congress regime in India. How can a national leader is ignorant and unaware of sensitive facts?” said Kiren Rijiju, BJP Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal West.

The Indian Express quoted its sources in the Army saying that the “model village” in question, built-in Arunachal’s Upper Subansiri district, “has been in adverse occupation since 1959.” The position was earlier held by the Assam Rifles before being overrun by the Chinese in 1959 in what is known as the Longju incident and the latter has maintained its position ever since.

“The real situation is that they are working on their side, we are working on our side,” reported the Indian Express quoting its sources. They added, “This (the incident) has been monitored and known for a long time, and has not caught the forces by alarm.”

Earlier this week, the Ministry of External Affairs, issued a statement, which stated, “We have seen recent reports on China undertaking construction work along with the border areas with India. China has undertaken such infrastructure construction activity in the past several years. In response, our Government too has stepped up border infrastructure including the construction of roads, bridges etc, which has provided much-needed connectivity to the local population along the border.”

While there is no denying that China’s People’s Liberation Army has indeed built a village on the occupied land, the fact that Rahul Gandhi conveniently left out the fact that the area is controlled by China since 1959 speaks volumes about his political aptitude and maturity.
