From SDM to Peon in seconds: Yogi govt brutally demotes corrupt bureaucrats

In the last four years, the Yogi government has taken many decisions that have set examples for other administrations. In another such decision, the Yogi government demoted four officers who were found to be involved in corruption. 

The four officers who were on the position of Additional District Information Officer (ADIG) in the UP government’s Information and Public Relations Department, were demoted to the position peon and chowkidar because they had reached to ADIG position through corruption.

Additional District Information Officer Bareilly Narsingh has been demoted as Peon, Additional District Information Officer Firozabad Dayashankar has been demoted as Chowkidar, Additional District Information Officer Mathura Vinod Kumar Sharma has been demoted as Cinema Operator Less Publicity Assistant, and Additional District Information Officer Bhadohi (Sant Ravidasnagar) Anil Kumar Singh has been demoted and returned to the post of Cinema Operator cum Publicity Assistant, as per the circular released by the UP government’s information department. 

The Yogi Adityanath government has zero-tolerance on corruption. Just like the Modi government at the centre, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh does not tolerate corruption and the onus to clean up the system lies with officials. Even if an official is personally not involved in corruption, she/he will be suspended if any corrupt activity takes place under his/her watch.

On the occasion of completion of one year of BJP government in office, CM Yogi pledged to burn the ‘Lanka of corruption’ in the state. He had said, “Kuch logon ko bandaron se bahut darr lagta hai… main batana chahta hoon ki yahan bhi ek bandar hai jo bhrasht tantra ko jala kar nasht kar dega.”(Some people are very afraid of monkeys. I want to tell them that there is a monkey here who will burn down the entire corrupt system)

To curb corruption, CM Yogi is also looking at the implementation of e-office and has asked the officials to speed up the process. E-office is a ‘product suit’ developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) that helps in faster clearance of files and envisions a paperless office. 

Successful implementation of e-office will further aid the anti-corruption agenda of Yogi Adityanath government, as it addresses the traditional slippages in government offices which have plagued the Indian executives for long.

Before this, CM Yogi had directed the officers on field duty to report in their offices by 9 am failing which action would be initiated against them. To ensure this, the CM has ordered the introduction of biometric attendance in all government offices and schools.

The actions taken by CM Yogi Adityanath are under the centre’s move to cleanse the bureaucracy. Recently, 12 officials had been retired using the Fundamental Rule 56 (j) of Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 1972 over serious allegations of misconduct such as fraud, extortion and sexual harassment. It is welcome to see the state following the centre’s footsteps.

Akhilesh Yadav led SP government which had been in charge till 2017 in UP had created a lot of mess in the Uttar Pradesh. When CM Yogi assumed power, he decided to curb the menace of corruption and to establish the rule of law and order in the state. And, so far he has been successful in his mission.
