CJI Bobde slammed the lawyers representing the farmers – Prashant Bhushan and three others for not taking court seriously. The four lawyers had told the court that they will return to court in 24 hours to inform whether the farmers wanted to appear before the committee constituted by the court on their grievances or not.
On this, CJI Bobde scolded the Bhushan, Phoolka and other lawyers that as members of the bar they are the officers of the court first and then the lawyers of farmers. “Members of the bar, who are first officers of the court and then lawyers for their clients, are expected to show some loyalty (to the court). You will appear before the court when it suits you. And if it doesn’t, you won’t. You can’t do that,” said CJI Bobde.
CJI Bobde also told the lawyers that their clients (farmers association) will not be allowed to organise the tractor march on Republic Day. “If you (farmer) want to solve the problem, you can do it by talking and negotiating. Otherwise, you can agitate for years,” said the CJI.
This is not the first time that Prashant Bhushan has been slammed by the CJI or the current dispensation of the apex court. Previously when Bhushan tweeted against CJI Bobde, he was held for contempt of court and ultimately had to pay a nominal fine of one rupee to getaway.
Even before that, the CJI slammed people like Bhushan for making RTI filing a profession. “Is RTI filing a profession?” asked CJI Bobde.
“Why every member should get information, for example, if someone needs an axe to grind against an officer …. We are asking methods to stop the abuse of RTI, why do you think it happens?” asked the apex court.
The apex court said that it is not opposed to RTI but, some guidelines and regulation are needed in the flow of information. “We are not against the right to information. But there is a need for guidelines. It cannot be an unbridled right,” argued CJI Bobde.
Many people from within the judiciary like Harish Salve had criticised people like Bhushan for using the court as a dartboard when Bhushan criticised the court for taking political sides. Salve said, “To say judgement is to favour a political party or judge has acted in favour of political party is wrong. Supreme Court is not a dartboard. You can criticise a judgment saying the judge has taken a conservative line.”

People like Prashant Bhushan have no respect for the judiciary; all they want is to utilise the judiciary for their political goals. Bhushan is a habitual offender when it comes to defaming the judiciary whenever his frivolous PILs are junked out or his leftist agenda gets busted.
