After a violent show of strength on the part of the protesting ‘farmers’ in the national capital on Republic Day, the police forces of at least three states have upped the ante against anarchical elements. The indications are that they will soon come cracking down hard on anti-social elements looking to push Delhi into an uncontrollable spate of violence and chaos. After having injured close to 400 police personnel and destroying public and private property, the protestors are simply counting the number of days before they are forcefully evicted from the jugular roads on the borders of Delhi which they have illegally blockaded.
In Yogi’s Uttar Pradesh, meanwhile, an unprecedented campaign has already started, and the government maintains that at least three main border areas – which were venues of the protesting farmers, have now been cleared by the state’s police. The Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government has, according to Times Now, removed ongoing kisan dharnas from all three places in the state, namely Chilla border and Rashtriya Prerna Sthal & Green Garden in Noida and Baraut in Baghpat.
State government sources reiterated that no force was used and protesting farmers themselves vacated the three protest sites. The protest sites being vacated on the part of the protesting farmers comes in the backdrop of their leaders being named in multiple FIRs by the Delhi Police, about the violence which gripped the national capital on Tuesday.

Interestingly, the UP government directed the state police authorities to have the protestors removed after receiving a request from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), where the body stated that highway work was getting delayed due to the protests. After having the protest sites vacated overnight, the UP police have also registered a case against unknown persons for obstructing work on the highway. At the main site of Ghazipur – the UP administration cut off the electricity supply, sending the protestors into a tizzy and a long night of anticipation, in which they expected an imminent police crackdown on them.
Delhi Police, meanwhile, has filed over 25 FIRs concerning the violence which was perpetrated in the national capital on Tuesday. 37 farmer union leaders have been named in the FIRs, and Delhi Police has issued notices to at least 20 farmers’ leaders including Yogendra Yadav for breaching the agreement with police regarding the tractor rally. The protesting leaders have been asked to reply within three days without fail.
Similarly, Haryana Police too has been put on high alert, while the main protest sites of Singhu and Tikri borders are now under the jurisdiction of the Home Ministry. Abundant paramilitary and police forces have been deployed at such protest sites as well, and action against the protestors now seems inevitable.
