‘Sinophobia is political correctness,’ As pro-China voices disappear in India, a rattled China blames Modi Govt

India China Obor

A general sense of disgust towards China and its tyrannical Communist regime is now appearing to become an eyesore for “Chinese experts”. Of course, experts and Global Times – the CCP pamphlet on international matters, have become synonymous in 2020. The Global Times unapologetically spins the narrative passed down to them from top CCP officials, and attributes the same to some flimsy experts. In its latest tirade against India and the Modi government, China, via its mouthpiece, has lamented the rise of ‘Sinophobia’, and how the same has been aided by the Modi government.

It is no secret that 2020 has witnessed an unprecedented flare up in tensions between India and China. The paper dragon’s unwarranted aggression against India in the Eastern Ladakh sector was answered in equal, and even greater proportions by India’s armed forces. In June, the PLA-orchestrated guerrilla attack against the Indian Army was foiled, even as India’s forces killed innumerable Chinese little emperors. Since June especially, there has been a meteoric rise of anti-China sentiments within India. Of course, it was but natural for the same to happen. No country can kill 20 Indian soldiers while injuring several others, and then get away with the same.

As a matter of fact, China, through its pamphlet, has took to squarely blaming the Modi government for rising ‘Sinophobia’ in India. According to the Global Times, the Modi government should have prevented the rise of anti-China sentiments, despite the paper dragon’s bullish behaviour against India. To quote from the Chinese foreign ministry publication, it stated, “Chinese analysts said anti-China sentiment or Sinophobia is “political correctness” in India at the moment, and the Indian government has no intention to control it but continues to use it to cover up their failed handling of COVID-19 epidemic situation and poor economic performance this year. In the short term, there is no hope of fixing bilateral ties, they said.”

Further, the Global Times article, which rants about how China felt betrayed by the Modi government, goes on to claim that with an incoming Biden administration, many fuellers of anti-China sentiment in India could find themselves in a tough spot, as the paper dragon hopes that Joe Biden will reset Trump’s Indo-Pacific policy and be much more lenient when dealing with Beijing. Of course, China is daydreaming about having a friendly administration in the White House, and is in for a rude shock as Joe Biden continues with Trump’s Indo-Pacific policy.

As for the Modi government not dealing with rising Sinophobia in India, China must know that the government of Prime Minister Modi is just as anti-China as is any citizen of India. Being a people’s government, the Union Government of India reflects the opinions of a majority of Indians. Therefore, for China to think that the Modi government will help reduce a sentiment which it harbours itself is really a no-brainer. In fact, PM Modi himself has been at the forefront of a global anti-China crusade throughout 2020.

Anti-China sentiments within India are here to stay. In fact, it is a shame that as a country, India took more than 70 years into its independent history to realise the real intentions of the Chinese. Now that we finally have, there is obviously no going back. Rising Sinophobia in India is simply a heartbreak which China will have to unwillingly deal with.
