From being Mamata’s favourite ‘strategist’ to a Twitter troll challenging other trolls, PK comes undone in Bengal

Tough luck!

Prashant Kishor, PK, BJP, Kishor west bengal

Prashant Kishor, the much-touted number cruncher who likes to be called an election strategist has now taken to Twitter to vent his sheer frustration at the steep rise of his former employer, the BJP in the state of West Bengal. Prashant Kishor and his election management agency I-PAC are currently hired by the Trinamool Congress to somehow salvage the incumbent party’s electoral fortunes in West Bengal. The fight for Bengal is being seen as one of the most important and crucial political battles which India has witnessed in recent times.

In the backdrop of Union Home Minister Amit Shah concluding his two-day visit to West Bengal, Prashant Kishore today tweeted, “For all the hype AMPLIFIED by a section of supportive media, in reality BJP will struggle to CROSS DOUBLE DIGITS in #WestBengal. PS: Please save this tweet and if BJP does any better, I must quit this space!” Therefore, according to Kishor, there is no BJP surge in West Bengal, and the BJP would not win more than 99 seats in the elections early next year.

The tweet also comes in the backdrop of the saffron party executing a breakage of the TMC, as eleven MLAs, an MP, and a former MP joined the BJP in the presence of Amit Shah at Midnapore rally. Among those who jumped ship from the TMC to the BJP were former Trinamool heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari. Having lost such a number of TMC leaders to the saffron party in one go, Prashant Kishor will most obviously be frustrated about his incapacity to save Mamata Banerjee’s fort against the BJP’s onslaught.

Therefore, the only plausible thing to do for Kishor, it seems, was to reduce himself to a lowly troll, throwing extravagant challenges towards the BJP in which even he personally does not believe. Already, Kishor is most likely stressed due to the fact that a major chunk of leaders disgruntled with the TMC are said to be particularly distressed by the influence of number-cruncher Prashant Kishor and Mamata’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee. Prashant Kishor has taken upon himself much of the organisational decision-making within the TMC. Further, the number cruncher who likes to be addressed as a ‘poll strategist’ has got a lot of reshuffling done within the TMC, causing many senior leaders of the party to be either side-lined, or left feeling insecure.

Prashant Kishor and his team of number crunchers have therefore become more of a liability than an asset for the TMC. Almost allTMC rebels have voiced their apprehensions about Kishor playing a larger than life role in the party.Yet, Kishor was, and perhaps continues to remain Mamata Banerjee’s favourite ‘strategist’. The number cruncher’s latest challenge to the BJP, however, shows that in absence of any real time support on the ground, the man is having to resort to social media gimmicks.

One thing is known about Prashant Kishor with much certainty, i.e., he would never take to putting out such troll-like tweets if the TMC were on a strong wicket in West Bengal. With one tweet, Prashant Kishor has laid to rest the massive show of confidence which the Trinamool Congress was putting on all this while. As for the man himself, he has come to be undone in Bengal.
