Communists face serious heartburn. Kerala BJP leaders booked for unfurling posters of Bhagwan Ram and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj after victory

Kerala, BJP, Communists

The Communists of Kerala had a major heartburn moment after BJP won the local body polls, securing 28 seats out of 52 in the Palakkad Municipality. During the victory celebrations in front of the municipal corporation on Wednesday evening, few BJP workers were seen in videos that have since surfaced on social media platforms, unfurling a giant banner with ‘Jai Sri Ram’ written in Malayalam and an image of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, from top of the building. The workers also unfurled another banner with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, the police said.

At the same time, other BJP workers gathered outside the Municipality complex and celebrated the party’s victory in saffron robes and slogans of ‘Jai BJP.’ The liberals of the left who tend to live and die by the virtues of freedom of speech and liberty took offence to the celebration and a complaint was filed with the Palakkad Town South Police by the Secretary of the Municipality, Balaram, alleging an attempt to ‘destroy communal harmony.’ Soon afterwards, the Congress party and Communist Party of India (Marxist) and its leader T K Noushad filed subsequent complaints to the police.

“A case has to be registered against those involved. The banners exhibited communal content. If the police hadn’t registered a case because of a lack of complaint, the Congress has lodged one with the district police chief on Thursday.” said VK Sreekantan, District Congress Committee President.

Kerala is the same state where banners of Kim Jong Un and Che Guevara are displayed with utmost pride. However, the moment a party unfurls banner India’s glorious rulers like Shivaji, who is an intrinsic part of the Indian culture, the Left loses its mind.

As a result, the Kerala Police on Thursday registered the case against the BJP workers. “The Special Branch Deputy Superintendent has been asked to file a report with regard to the incident,” District Police Chief Sujithdas S told PTI.

Meanwhile, to rub salt into Left’s agony, BJP spokesperson Sandeep Varier’s celebrated BJP’s victory and posted on Facebook, claiming “Palakkad town was Kerala’s Gujarat”.

The biggest bastion of Left, the state of Kerala is seeing a resurgent BJP making rapid strides and steadily cornering the Pinarayi Vijayan government. The state organization of BJP appears to have got solid support from the youth and women of the state in the recently concluded local body polls.

The ruling LDF party which has been rattled by BJP’s rise had even brought in a draconian ordinance that was aimed at culling Freedom of Speech (FoE) of any individual of the state. It was after the BJP leaders started mounting serious opposition to the draconian law that the Kerala government decided not to implement the amended Kerala Police Act.

One can only imagine what would have happened if the draconian law was still in place. The Kerala government would not have wasted a beat in putting the BJP leaders and workers behind the bars. As usual, the entire cabal has preferred to observe a stoic silence on the issue, but the Kerala model of governance has once again been exposed.
