‘BJP might assassinate Mamata Banerjee,’ TMC makes a horrendous allegation as election defeat gets closer

TMC, BJP

As the race for West Bengal heats up, the Trinamool Congress is using every dirty trick in the book to save Mamata Banerjee’s CM chair.  Seemingly on the back foot after the alleged attack on BJP President JP Nadda’s convoy, TMC leader Subrata Mukherjee has now made a horrendous allegation that the BJP can have Mamata Banerjee assassinated should the party fail to win the polls.

Plagued by internal bickering and staring at an imminent defeat, things are getting pretty desperate in the TMC camp. TMC leader Subrata Mukherjee has made a bizarre accusation as he claimed that, “They (BJP) are plotting to have Mamata Banerjee removed. They can even hire people to assassinate her secretly if they fail to defeat her electorally. People are being brought from outside to create unrest in Bengal. We will foil their plans.”

The state Panchayat Minister also said that if the BJP tries to harm Mamata, who is the “mother of crores of citizens, we will shed our blood to stop that from happening”.

Assuming the role of judge, jury and executioner, Mukherjee talking about the attack on Nadda’s convoy said, “Our members, following an investigation, have confirmed that the saffron party planted people to hurl stones at his vehicle.”

BJP WB President Dilip Ghosh hit out at Mukherjee’s allegations as he retorted, “With the constant erosion of public support, TMC leaders are now making wild allegations.”

BJP MP Arun Singh also commented on Mukherjee’s comments as he said, “The TMC is dealing with infighting and defections, as many in the party are not in favour of seeing Mamata at the helm any more. If Mamata is facing any threat, it is from her own people.”

Mukherjee’s wild allegations can be seen as a desperate attempt to gain public sympathy amidst rapidly eroding public support for Mamata and her TMC. Over the past few years, playing the victim card has been a hallmark of all the opposition parties when they take on the BJP, however, with West Bengal effectively slipping into a state of anarchy thanks to the rampant lawlessness.

The incessant attacks on BJP workers and leaders since the run-up to the 2019 LS elections with earlier this year a BJP MLA being murdered and hanged in full public view have rapidly increased the public anger against the TMC administration and the attack on Nadda’s convoy would have only increased the anger. Hence, Mukherjee is desperately trying to gain public sympathy by making wild allegations as the TMC stares at an imminent defeat.
