In a shocking development which has come to light out of Assam, AIUDF Chief and Lok Sabha MP from Dhubri – Badruddin Ajmal was greeted with ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans at the Silchar airport on Friday. Ajmal is in Silchar for a four-day visit in order to campaign on behalf of the AIUDF-Congress alliance which has been formed to take on the BJP in the state assembly polls early next year. The visit, however, has now been overshadowed with the AIUDF supremo and Congress – both being called elements who find support among anti-nationals in Assam. Hilariously also, Ajmal made an astronomical claim of winning 12 out of the 15 seats in Assam’s Barak valley alone.
In an all-out attack against the Islamist MP from Dhubri cum perfume baron, who was greeted with ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Look at the brazenness of these fundamentalists anti-national people who are shouting PAKISTAN ZINDABAD while they welcome MP Badruddin Ajmal. This thoroughly exposes INC India which is encouraging such forces by forging an alliance. We shall fight them tooth & nail. Jai Hind.” The all-important Assam Minister had earlier also said that Ajmal’s dreams of having a cabinet or becoming the Chief Minister of Assam would never fructify and that he could make his cabinet either in Pakistan or Bangladesh. The greetings of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ for Ajmal at Silchar airport came a day after such remarks by Sarma.

The AIUDF, in an immediate damage-control move, sought to assert that the slogans, in fact, were not ‘Pakistan Zindabad’, but those which sounded similar. AIUDF General Secretary Aminul Islam said that the slogans raised by the supporters were ‘Badruddin Ajmal Zindabad’ and ‘Aziz Khan Zindabad’. Then, the Islamist leader also went on to allege that “Himanta Biswa Sarma’s channel News Live made news out of it saying that Pakistan Zindabad slogans had been raised in Silchar.” The AIUDF has so far been able to convince close to nobody with their ridiculous defence. Aziz Ahmed Khan is an MLA from South Karimganj constituency.
Cachar SP has meanwhile said that while raising such slogans indeed amounts to sedition, an investigation was being carried out to determine the veracity of the video clip, and the slogans heard in it. It must be mentioned that the Congress and AIUDF have formed a peculiar alliance, where the former is obviously seen portraying itself as a liberal party, while the latter being a radically Islamist one is not even subject to doubt. Whether the Congress retains its alliance with the AIUDF subsequent to it being revealed that many among Ajmal’s ranks support Pakistan instead of India, is yet to be seen.
