Bhindranwale 2.0: Congress is repeating the same mistake it had made in Punjab which led to Indira Gandhi’s death

The Congress party, for the sake of votes, is repeating the same mistake that it made in late 1970s, which led to the Khalistan movement and the assassination of Indira Gandhi. It is well-known that Sanjay Gandhi created the monster Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in order to uproot the Akali Dal-Janata Party government that came to power after Indira Gandhi led Congress lost badly in the 1977 Assembly Election.

“It was Sanjay Gandhi, known for his extra-constitutional methods, who suggested that some ‘Sant’ should be put up to challenge the Akali government,” writes veteran journalist Kuldeep Nayar.

As Sanjay Gandhi’s friend, Kamal Nath, recalls: “The first one we interviewed did not look a ‘courageous type’. Bhindranwale, strong in tone and tenor, seemed to fit the bill. We would give him money off and on, but we never thought he would turn into a terrorist.”

Kuldeep Nayar describes the story of how “Sanjay Gandhi and Giani Zail Singh created ‘Sant’ Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and unleashed the forces that precipitated the assassination of Indira Gandhi,” in graphic detail, in his autobiography Beyond The Lines.

Now, in order to score political points, both the mainstream parties of the state- Congress and Akali Dal- are flirting with Khalistani elements, and spreading ‘misinformation’ over farm bills. The fictitious snatching of farmers’ land by industrialists supposed doing away with the MSP regime and garnishing of the same false narratives with religious toxicity, along with the active support of diaspora separatists has ensured that a Communist dystopia is created in the minds of Punjab’s farmers, who now think of the Modi government as their sworn enemy.

In line with the same, one can now see posters galore of separatist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in the protests. Additionally, alleged farmers are also issuing threats to Prime Minister Modi.

In one of the videos from the protests, one of the demonstrators can be seen threatening PM Modi with dire consequences if an immediate solution is not reached in the upcoming meeting between the farmers and the Centre on December 3 over the farm laws. An alleged farmer was heard saying,“December 3 ko meeting hai, agar hal koi hua toh thik hai nahin toh…aap jaante nahin…hamare shaheed Udham Singh ne goro ko Canada me jake thoka…Indira thok di…Modi ki chhati mein…”(If no solution is reached at in the December 3 meeting, you don’t know, our shaheed Udham Singh shot the colonisers in Canada. Indira Gandhi was taken down. Similarly, in Modi’s chest…”).

Last month, Braveheart Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a Shaurya Chakra awardee, who fought the Khalistani terrorism tooth and nail for the better part of the last three-four decades in Punjab, was shot dead by two unidentified assailants at his residence-cum-school premises in Tarn Taran district last Friday. Apparently, the attack on Sandhu took place after the Congress government withdrew his security cover, raising suspicion over the timing of the decision.

Since the last few months, the Khalistani elements are on rise in the state once again, thanks to the vicious politics of Congress and the Akali Dal. The simple fact that no other state of India is witnessing its farmers taking to the streets shows that Punjab’s farmers, to put it simply, have been fooled by political parties and vested interest groups. As a matter of fact, no such protests were witnessed in Punjab when the said laws had already come into existence, albeit as Central government ordinances. It was only during the Monsoon session that the issue of three farm laws being anti-Punjab gained prominence.

This shows that a very dirty game is being played by Khalistani elements in Punjab under the garb of farmers’ protests, and the Congress government of the state is actively supporting them only to defame the Modi government. The last time when Sanjay Gandhi attempted a similar trick, it created the monster named Jarnail Singh, and now the Congress Party must learn a lesson from the past and stop anti-national politics.
