Xiaomi doesn’t recognize Arunachal Pradesh as Indian Territory. But Manu Jain is a Deshbhakt?

Social media is rife with speculations about Chinese smartphone companies plotting with the Chinese Communist Party regime to steadily impression Indian minds with narratives which Beijing wants to doll out towards the south of the Himalayas. To the same effect, it has now been revealed by multiple social media users that Xiaomi smartphones and a Mi sponsored app in them, MIUI is not showing weather results for the entire of Arunachal Pradesh, even as some users also alleged that the same blackout of Indian territory was being witnessed when someone searches for the weather forecast of Leh, Ladakh.

According to users, Xiaomi smartphones and the MIUI app do not show weather results for places located in Arunachal Pradesh, including the state capital – Itanagar. Mind you, Xiaomi and its sub-brand are both Chinese entities, and therefore, companies would obviously be subservient to the CCP. The Chinese Communist Party regime does not recognise Arunachal Pradesh as Indian territory, and instead refers to it as ‘South Tibet’. Effectively, China claims ownership over the North-eastern state of India. A user even alleged that weather conditions of Leh in Ladakh were not being shown on Xiaomi smartphones. Like Arunachal Pradesh, China has off-late even begun foolishly claiming Indian Ladakh as its own territory.

Xiaomi’s subsidiary – Mi India came up with a flimsy defence on Sunday regarding Xiaomi smartphones not showing weather conditions of sovereign Indian territory which China claims as its own. “We would like to clarify that the weather app on our devices uses data from multiple third-party data sources and we understand that for many locations, the weather-related data is not available on the current app,” the Mi India spokesperson said.”This is a technical error on our application. That said, we are working on improving the app to get the best experience for our users. As always, we are committed to India and our users across the country to provide them with the best possible user experience,” the spokesperson added.

For Xiaomi smartphones to allegedly not display weather conditions and forecast of specifically those Indian territories which China contends as its own, and then for the smartphone major to call the same a mere ‘technical error’ is hilarious, to say the least. Earlier, TFI had reported how Xiaomi India’s MD Manu Kumar Jain had gone on to fragrantly claim that the company was “more Indian” than any other smartphone firm in the country. He diligently attempted to explain how Xiaomi’s products were ‘Made in India’ and how the company employed over 50,000 people in the country. That the entire leadership team of the company is Indian and that the company pays its taxes in India were among the other reasons given by Jain to distance and insulate the Chinese company from growing anti-China sentiments in India.

Meanwhile, even as Xiaomi faces the heat for breaching the trust of Indians and perhaps acting at the behest of the CCP, microblogging app Twitter on Sunday showed Jammu & Kashmir as a part of the ‘People’s Republic of China’ when users entered ‘Leh’ as their location.

It is about time that the Government of India cracks the whip on such anti-India entities operating freely in the country at the behest of rogue foreign powers.
