In a chilling Love Jihad case involving the murder of a college girl in Haryana’s Faridabad, one Tauseef alias Sajid alias Rahul shot a 21-year-old Hindu girl named Nikita Tomar who refused to convert to Islam. In a shocking video that has gone viral, the accused can be seen shooting her at point-blank range outside Aggarwal College where the victim had gone to appear for an exam on Monday. On 25 October, the victim had lodged an FIR against one of the assailants – Tauseef, on charges of harassment and his forceful attempts at trying to convert her to Islam and then marrying her. On Monday, the prime accused, who masqueraded as a Hindu boy named Rahul before the victim during a large period of their acquaintance, accompanied with an associate first tried to kidnap Nikita, and upon facing resistance, shot her dead in broad daylight.

The family of the victim have alleged that the murder of their daughter is a case of love jihad, and that Tauseef had been trying to get Nikita converted to Islam for quite some time before he could marry her. According to the FIR filed by the victim on the 25th of October 2020, the accused Sajid who had introduced himself as Rahul to the girl was continuously harassing her from July 25, 2020, but she did not reveal this to her parents. It has also been reported that Tauseef had been hounding Nikita since 2018 when the victim’s father had even filed a molestation complaint against the daylight murderer who tried to portray himself as a Hindu boy in a bid to fool the victim and ultimately convert her to Islam. However, due to immense pressure on the family, the case was dropped.

According to the FIR filed by the victim of 25 October, when she had tried to confront Sajid alias Tauseefin August, he had offered her a sedative-laced soft drink, following which Nikita had fallen partially unconscious. He then took her inside a car, where her clothes were taken off and her pictures were clicked. Tauseef then began using these photographs and videos to blackmail the victim. The FIR stated that he threatened to leak the pictures on the internet if she did not convert her religion and marry him.

Tauseef had also, according to the FIR, forcefully taken Nikita to a maulvi in Hathin, Faridabad, where subsequent to her consuming water, she fell unconscious. Upon gaining consciousness, she somehow escaped and set off for the Mahila Thana in Palwal. Again, Tauseef tried to stop her and attempted to take her away. However, the victim is said to have made a scene on the spot, following which Tauseef fled. She then lodged a complaint against Sajid alias Tauseef at the Mahila Thana, accusing him of rape and harassment. Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered against Tauseef alias Sajid under IPC sections 363, 366(A), 328, 506, 376. POCSO Act was also invoked in the case.

The heinous murder of Nikita Tomar appears to be a classic case of love jihad. This case comes days after Tanishq Jewels, in complete contestation of the ground realities, had taken to virtue-signal Indians about inter-faith marriages and paint a rosy image of Hindu girls being wholeheartedly accepted, without terms and conditions, into certain households. The broad daylight murder of Nikita Tomar serves as a reminder that stringent laws against love jihad are an absolute need of the hour, and that without such laws, Hindu girls will continue to be forcefully converted, married and even killed.
