‘Bengal nearing status of West Bangladesh,’ Tathagata Roy has arrived in West Bengal politics and TMC is very scared

Bengal

The Mamata-led Trinamool Congress, which is ruling the state of West Bengal, has cautioned former Governor of Meghalaya Tathagata Roy, against entering politics in the state, owing to his ‘obnoxious’ comments and ‘polluted’ mindset. The comments by TMC’s education minister Partha Chatterjee have come in the backdrop of Roy relentlessly exposing the Mamata-led government on a multiplicity of issues, and also how the land of Bengal now bears more resemblance to what the former Governor has called ‘West Bangladesh’.

Tathagata Roy had tweeted, “There is no state in India called ‘Bengal’. West Bengal, through its so-called ‘progressive thoughts’, has shot itself in the feet and would have been halfway today to becoming West Bangladesh. It is only the fear of the Iron Man in New Delhi that prevents it. Jai Hind.”

Before this tweet, Roy had just completed an entire thread on the creation of West Bengal, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s contributions in saving Bengali Hindus and the pogrom which ensued against Bengali Hindus since 1950. It was in this context that the former Governor called Bengal an entity nearing the status of ‘West Bangladesh’. What the TMC found so disconcerting about such an opinion of Roy’s is yet to be ascertained.

In a retort within ten minutes of Roy referring to the possibility of Bengal turning into West Bangladesh in the absence of Prime Minister Modi in Delhi, Partha Chatterjee said, “Bengal is a land where respect for people is paramount! Tathagata Roy has made some wild obnoxious comments and he should consider the idea of entering Bengal politics with such a polluted mindset.”

The TMC will obviously flounder around, in the run-up to the assembly elections in Bengal, to force Tathagata Roy out of active politics in the state, as Roy commands the unparalleled authority to unite Hindus who are facing persecution in their state for years on end now. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that the presence of Tathagata Roy on the ground in Bengal, fighting for the BJP and against the TMC will have a tremendous impact on the voters. The welcome which the former Governor received upon arrival at Kolkata airport as he landed to join active politics in the state stands as a testimony to his stature on the ground.

Tathagata Roy is a declared TMC-hawk, who does not mince his words when it comes to taking down the present-day rulers of Bengal, even if that comes at the expense of him courting controversy. The TMC’s endeavours to somehow make Roy rethink his decision of re-joining active politics speaks to the amount of fear they are experiencing due to his presence.
