5th August – the holy date will go down in the history books as the day of the birth of a new India. Last year on the same date, the Modi government in a historic decision, abrogated Article 370, thereby stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and hence, unifying the region with the rest of India. Today, the foundational stone of the historic Ram Mandir was laid by the Prime Minister himself, as today marked the end of years of injustice meted out to Hindus. It was 29 years ago when the less known Narendra Modi vowed to not visit Ayodhya until the construction of Ram Mandir begins. Today, on 5th August, Narendra Damodardas Modi returned to Ayodhya as the Prime Minister of India to lay the foundation of the Ram Mandir.

Prime Minister Modi clad in a gold kurta and white dhoti visited Ayodhya after a gap of 29 years for the Bhoomi Pujan of Ram Mandir; as he laid a 40-kg silver brick today to mark the symbolic start of a grand temple.

It was back in 1991, when PM Modi had visited the riverside town of Ayodhya during the Tiranga Yatra, along with party veteran and the then BJP Chief Murli Manohar Joshi. The Prime Minister’s visit to Ayodhya holds historic significance as PM Modi has visited the length and breadth of India but never once visited the land of Ayodhya due to his vow.

Around 29 years ago, in 1991, Narendra Modi used to be a member of BJP National Election Committee when he also visited the then disputed site of Ram Mandir.

During his visit in 1991, PM Modi was quizzed about when he would visit Ayodhya again, to which Modi replied- that he would only visit the historic city once the construction of the temple starts.

“The day the construction of the Ram temple will begin, I will come back to Ayodhya on that day,” he said.

Now after 29 years, it is mystical that PM Modi himself laid the foundation stone of Ram Mandir. He kept his promise to himself and the entire country as he returned to Ayodhya as the Prime Minister of India, which marks a new chapter in the golden history of India.

Today is the day to rejoice for billions across the country; a historic error has finally been corrected. The nation stands united and PM Modi has played a huge role in fulfilling the dream of billions of Indians.
