There’s no limit that Pakistan cannot go to make an absolute mockery of it. After Pakistan shot itself in the foot by alienating Saudi Arabia and the UAE, thanks to Foreign Minister Qureshi’s statements, Pakistan is getting increasingly isolated as no one except for China and Turkey are willing to support Pakistan’s desperate attempts to internationalise the issue of Kashmir. Devoid of any ideas and support, Pakistan has resorted to lying as it posted a fake speech to UNSC on its official social media handles and website, which was caught out by India resulting in yet another embarrassment for Pakistan.

One of the major reasons why Imran Khan was elected to power was because it was perceived that he will be able to internationalise the issue of Kashmir. Such is Khan’s and Pakistan’s obsession with Kashmir. Repeated failures at the diplomatic front on Kashmir will result in the downfall of the Imran Khan government. Cornered and isolated, in a desperate bid to save face, Pakistan tried to hoodwink its citizens and exude a false victory but was quickly caught red-handed by India.

On August 24, Pakistan’s permanent mission to the UN posted a fake speech to the UNSC where it pretended that its permanent representative, Munir Akram delivered a speech at a UNSC session on terrorism. In a bid to placate its populace, Pakistan claimed that Munir’s speech slammed India, as he raked the issue of Kashmir and mentioned Kulbhushan Jhadav as “proof” of India’s role in perpetuating “terrorism in Pakistan”.

However, Pakistan’s watertight plan to deceive its people had a tiny error. Turns out, the UNSC session at which Akram ‘delivered’ his speech was not open to non-members. Pakistan was not even in the list of speakers for the virtual session and hence, Munir Akram never made this statement. The Indian Mission to the UN called out Pakistan’s bluff and took pot-shots at the rogue state for blatantly lying.

“We fail to comprehend where exactly did the Permanent Representative of Pakistan make his statement since the Security Council Session today was not open to non-members of the Security Council,” read India’s statement.

The Indian Mission in its rebuttal also pointed out how Imran Khan had admitted in the UNGA 2019 the presence of 40,000-50,000 terrorist inside Pakistan and also labelled Al Qaeda’s Osama bin Laden as a “martyr” inside Pakistani Parliament.

Additionally, the German mission to the UN had put out a picture of the UNSC meeting where Munir Akram was nowhere to be seen.

However, this was not the first instance where Pakistan’s permanent representative has been caught out lying. Akram’s predecessor, Maleeha Lodhi in the UN General Assembly 2017 showed an injured Palestinian girl from Gaza and falsely claimed that this was a girl from Kashmir.

Pakistan’s lies have consistently been called out but the nation has accepted embarrassment as a part and parcel of life. Imran Khan has grossly failed on Kashmir with even traditional allies like Saudi Arabia refusing to back Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir. Isolated and desperate, it seems that Imran Khan has ordered his lackeys to lie through their teeth to find a way out from this difficult situation.
