The Communist government in Nepal likes to live in a false bubble as fresh on the back of amending its constitution to include the Indian territories of Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura, Nepal has now laid claim on Bihar’s East Champaran as it denied Bihar’s Water Resource Department from constructing an embankment to prevent flooding.

Every year the state of Bihar is ravaged with floods during the monsoon season, and hence as a precautionary measure, the state Water Resource Department has built an embankment on the Lal Bakey river in East Champaran along the 729-kilometre international border with Nepal.

In the lieu of the impending monsoon, when the WRD officials went to enforce the embankment, to their surprise, Nepalese officials refused to allow them to fortify the embankment. The department had never faced any hindrances from the Nepal government in the previous years whenever they went to fortify the embankment. The Lal Bakey river originates in Nepal’s Himalayan region before flowing into Bihar.

According to reports, not only has Nepal denied permission to fortified the embankment but has now also falsely claimed that East Champaran is a part of Nepal’s territory.

The authorities tried to sort out the issue at a local level but to little avail and hence have been forced to bring the development to the notice of the Home Ministry, Bihar government, and Indian embassy in Nepal.

East Champaran district magistrate Shirshat Kapil Ashok speaking to media said, “Nepal has stopped embankment-related work in Indian territory near the border. We have reported the matter to both, the Bihar government as well as the Union Government. We hope to resolve the issue soon.”

He further added, “Fortification of embankment in 400 metres, out of a 2.5km-long stretch, was not done. The WRD department has built the embankment till the last point of the border, but now Nepalese authorities are raising objections over it.”

Needless to say, the KP Sharma Oli government is dancing on the orders of its master, Chinese President Xi Jinping as the latter saved Oli’s government from a certain fall earlier this year and has inundated the Himalayan kingdom with billions in Chinese investment.

The latest development will cause irreparable damage to the bilateral relations between India and Nepal and by siding with China, Nepal stands to lose the most. Not only is the world united against China as it seeks to punish Xi Jinping and his lackeys for the China-made pandemic, but Nepal can also learn from the plight of Pakistan who has been reduced to a joke after doing China’s bidding for years.
