‘The real villain is Congress,’ Mayawati is unofficially an NDA member now, and a sworn Congress hater

Mayawati, the four-time Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and BSP supremo has been showing increasing indications of her siding with the BJP-led NDA during the CoVID-19 pandemic. Mayawati’s tweets over the past few days, particularly in the two days gone by, show that the political stalwart of UP might be finally thinking of aligning with the NDA after all.

Mayawati, in a series of tweets, lambasted the Congress, and indirectly thrashed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for playing street-level dirty politics during a pandemic. She felt particularly disgruntled by the entire 1000 buses claim of the Congress, which later turned out to be an absolute sham.

Mayawati minced no words in clearly stating that the plight of innumerable migrant workers and underprivileged people in India was a direct result of the Congress rule for close to 60 years, in which nothing constructive was done for the said section of people, and reflected an attitude of apathy towards them. Had the Congress worked towards proving livelihood to the said section of people, they would not be in the current spot.

She then went on to say that the videos being posted by senior Congress leaders was nothing but a blatant act of drama being put up, coupled with a fake show of empathy towards those facing the brunt of the nationwide lockdown. Had the Congress talked about the work done by them in their long reign over India for such people, it would have been much better, Mayawati further stated.

The BSP supremo then went on to say that the BJP should work towards generating employment and livelihood opportunities for the underprivileged their hometowns and villages, and should not walk on the apathy-ridden footsteps of past Congress governments. She also called upon BSP workers to extend humanitarian aid to migrant workers and those who have been at the receiving end of the lockdown.

In previous tweets, Mayawati lambasted the Congress government of Rajasthan for demanding close to 36 lakh rupees from the Yogi government as a charge of the buses provided by the Rajasthan government to ferry stranded students from Kota to UP. She said that the Congress sending such an inflated and extravagant bill for providing buses in order to help stranded students shows the party’s inhumanity.

Such tweets by the BSP supremo leave no doubt that the former Chief Minister is looking at an opportunity to earn the goodwill of the BJP, and perhaps, become a part of the ruling NDA government at the Centre. Mayawati seems to have realised that if she does not do anything as of now, she and her party will be close to non-existent by the time the Uttar Pradesh state assembly elections arrive, not to mention the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
