Kamal Nath‘s Congress government was dislodged from power in late March this year after it lost its majority. However, the after-waves of the same continue to emerge in Madhya Pradesh, even as the state is currently ruled by the BJP, led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan. In a bizarre development which has been reported from the state, a resident who had complained about a hefty and unfair electricity bill being charged from him was reverted with a reply saying he must vote for the Congress in order to get his bills trimmed.

Harish Jadhav, a resident of Agar Malwa district in Madhya Pradesh, had raised a complaint with the electricity department after he received a bill of more than Rs 30,000. To his astonishment, the next day, he was perplexed to see his complaint being marked ‘closed’. That was not all, the closing remarks shocked the wits of the man.

“Agar bill mein chhoot paana hai to BJP ko hataana hai. Congress ko laana hai. 100 rupay me 100 ka aana hai (If you want a cheaper bill, then remove BJP from power, bring Congress to get Rs 100 bill),” the closing remark read.

Seeing such a direct assault upon his right to vote for anybody of his choosing, Harish Jadhav registered another complaint, this time with the collector’s office too. After an investigation into the matter, an assistant engineer working in the Agar Malwa City centre of the Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Ltd was suspended, while a departmental inquiry has also been opened in the case, reported India Today.

What this incident goes on to show is the alacrity with which the Congress has managed to plant its minions and proxies in various government departments, who are willing to shamelessly demand votes for the grand old party in complete contestation of the post they hold. The Congress and its minions have stooped to the level of garnering votes out of the plight of those who face genuine issues in their day to day lives. No wonder the party has been reduced to double digits in the Lok Sabha.

This is not the first time that the Congress has done so. In 2019, a Quora user had replied to a question “What shocked you today as an Indian?”. The answer was a testimony on how the Congress had managed to habituate government officers to work as its proxies, demanding bribes for the Associated Journals Ltd, which publishes the National Herald. The officer had allegedly demanded a cheque of Rs. 3900 from the individual, which is the exact amount of the subscription of the National Herald Privilege Offer. The party high command had also directed Congress state units to go about collecting subscribers for its mouthpiece prior to its launch.

Such instances of sheer desperation on the part of the Congress and its proxies go on to show how they have been pushed into political irrelevance and are in dire need of an oxygen burst, even if it means arm-twisting one person for his vote.
