‘If they return to being criminals, you will be in big trouble,’ Tahaffuz-E-Deen Maulana threatens media over Tablighi Jamaat coverage

Tablighi Jamaat, maulana, Saad, coronavirus,

Tahaffuz-E-Deen India has released a video of one Maulana Mahfooz Ur Rahman, who vents out his anger against the media for trying to ‘defame’ the Tablighi Jamaat over its recently held congregation at Nizamuddin, which by the way, was in total contestation of guidelines issued by the Delhi government at that point in time.

Mahfooz Ur Rahman, who claims to be the General Secretary of AIMIM (Maharashtra), can be heard saying that media houses are spreading propaganda against the Tablighi Jamaat and Coronavirus, and further trying to defame a particular community.

The Maulana goes on to name certain Hindi news channels like India TV, ABP News, Aaj Tak and Zee News, threatening them with grave consequences if they continue disseminating information regarding the Tablighi Jamaat which hurts people like him.

Wearing the probing hat, the cleric goes on to say, “I ask Rajat Sharma as the general secretary of AIMIM for Maharashtra state, what proof do you have that Tablighi Jamaat spread the coronavirus? That the people assembled because of Maulana Saad’s call?”

Maulana Mahfooz tries to convince his audience, while continuing to threaten the media, that the Tablighi Jamaat is in fact a social-reformist movement, aimed at crafting good Muslims out of bad ones. He went on to say that the Jamaat is benefiting the country by bringing in foreign currency, alongside good publicity to India from all around the world.

But here’s the catch. What Maulana Mahfooz says next, exposes the Jamaat and its saint-like members.

media zabaan sambhal kar kaam kare…tablighi jamaat aur markaz ko badnam karne ki koshish na kare.. Maulana Saad Amir-ul-Hind hain, wo musalmano ke betaaj badshah hain…aap musalmano ke jazbaat se khilwad mat kijiye”.

(Media should weigh their words carefully. They should not try to defame the Jamaat and Markaz. Maulana Saad is Amir-ul-Hind, he is a king without crown for Indian Muslims. Don’t play with the emotions of Muslims.)

If you interview any Jamaat member…you will find out he was once a big-time criminal…if these people resume their previous personalities of criminals, you will be in a lot of trouble. I want to warn you, I want to tell the media,” he further adds.

This tells us about who the members of the Tablighi Jamaat really are, which is very close to small-time criminals. The question is, if the Jamaat is indeed the reformist organization which it claims to be, why would its members return to becoming people they previously were, i.e., criminals? Does that not rather speak to the quality of reform that the Tablighi Jamaat brings about in its members?

The fact that mainstream media is completely silent about this threat by a cleric is shameful as well. It shows how almost anybody can threaten the media and get away with it without facing any consequences. The media needs to stand up for itself against such rogue threats.
