Pakistan and scientific-temper are two words that cannot be used in a single sentence and the troubled country just keeps on giving us instances one after another to reinforce this belief. The sheer stupidity and misogyny in the clerics and politicians of Pakistan can outdo any other nations by a country mile. With the Wuhan virus pandemic engulfing the entire world, Pakistan has not been left untouched by it either. Consequently, a telethon event was organized last Thursday to raise funds to fight the Wuhan virus.
During the event, a prominent Pakistani cleric Maulana Tariq Jameel said that the novel coronavirus has been brought to humanity as a repercussion to the “wrongdoing of women”. “Who has torn honor to pieces in my country? Who makes my country’s daughters dance? Who is asking them to wear skimpier clothes? Whom should I hold accountable for this sin?” the Maulana was heard saying in his monologue.

The deranged Tariq Jameel made the comments in the august presence of the Prime Minister Imran Khan who did not bother correcting him. The Pakistan PM went a step ahead and later shifted the blame on Bollywood for corrupting the minds of innocent Pakistani’s.
“The prime minister is here, anchors are sitting here… Do we consider how we are going to face the day of judgment due to our deceitfulness?” he asked.
“When a Muslim’s daughter chooses the path of indecency and the youth choose vulgarity… The biggest curse of God was on the people of Lut as they crossed all boundaries of indecency and were cursed five times,” the Maulana kept on making his absurd statements with even bizarre analogies.
The Maulana had gone so far in his misogynistic rant that even the Human Right Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) had to step in and pull up Maulana for his statements. (Yes, a Human Rights Commission exists in Pakistan).
A Maulana giving such peculiar sermons is still excusable because no one expects them to have any shred of rationality but what Pakistani PM said afterwards just makes us feel sorry for Pakistan and its people who have unfortunately chosen him to lead the country forward.
Imran Khan made absolutely no efforts to rebuke the cleric and instead prayed that the women of the country came back on the right track. He further deflected the blame on Bollywood for maligning the social fabric of Pakistan.
“Bollywood is behind the rising sex-crimes and students taking to drugs and paedophilia in Pakistan’ the former cricketer told media.
Once #ImranKhan used to hobnob with Bollywood and Indian Page3 circuit & enjoyed the glamour when it suited him and now blaming bollywood films. Indian film industry has always upheld Morality as a core value and never promoted or justify any wrong practice in our films. 🇮🇳🙏 https://t.co/27KQE6Wqi7

One wonders how Pakistani’s are still watching Bollywood movies, given the PM had banned Bollywood flicks in his country last year.
Imran Khan is one hapless PM and he is trying to divert his lack of courage and grit to take important decisions on the growing Wuhan virus cases in the country by blaming Bollywood and by being in cahoots with such Maulanas. After all, the clergy of Pakistan is a powerful entity having the backing of Pakistan military and ISI.
Imran Khan had to succumb to the clergy when the Islamic clerics refused to close the mosques in the month of Ramzan even when the number of cases has reached well over 11,000. The toothless Imran and his government resigned themselves to the cleric’s demands and the lives of Pakistanis in the wake of a pandemic have been left in the hands of fate.
