Amnesty International, the British human rights watch organization, is well known for its anti-India stance and violation of the Foreign Exchange Regulations Act (FERA). It opposed the CAA and criticized the “brutal crackdown by the Indian Government” on the anti-CAA protestors.
The shady organization has started a petition demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi to, “Unequivocally condemn the excessive police and vigilante violence used on peaceful protestors and drop the charges against the peaceful protestors.”
Amnesty International was founded by Peter Benenson, a British lawyer and Human Rights activist. His parents, both Jewish, from Britain (father) and Imperial Russia (mother), were “ardent supporters of Zionism” and campaigned for a separate Jewish state in Palestine area.
The organization tried to educate PM Modi on “idea of India” and in the press release, it wrote, “The Republic of India was built on the foundation of peaceful protests. Without dissent and resistance, there would have been no India to speak of. We urge you to immediately take action to protect the people’s right to express dissent peacefully.”
The organization gave a clean chit to the anti-CAA protestors and criticized the Indian state authorities for use of “brutal force” against the “peaceful protestors”. “Excessive force, including police firing and lathi (baton) charge, is further used to deter largely peaceful protests. With this approach, India stands in absolute violation of international human rights laws and standards,” wrote Amnesty in its press release.
All the incidents of violent protest against CAA, those in Seelampur, West Bengal, Assam and other parts of the country, by people from a ‘particular community’ did not find space in Amnesty’s Press Release.
In a simplistic interpretation of CAA, Amnesty called the amendment act ‘discriminatory’. “In December 2019, the Indian Government passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) that discriminates on the basis of religion, particularly Islam. Hundreds and thousands of people took to the streets in protest of the law and many were met with police brutality, arbitrary detention under repressive or colonial laws and ill-treatment in detention,” said Amnesty on the CAA.
Previously, ED conducted raids at the office of Amnesty India in Bengaluru. These raids were conducted in connection with allegations of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA violations). The FCRA unit of the Central Government is seeking a probe, to determine whether the Indian entities linked with Amnesty International-UK violated foreign exchange rules. The total amount involved in the allegations was over Rs. 36 crores and was allegedly transferred during May 2014 and August 2016.
It is interesting to note here that the influential organisation has been working in India with a clear prejudice against anything Indian. It has been actively involved in widespread anti-India propaganda on a range of issues. Its ex-executive director, Aakar Patel has been particularly vocal as far as vicious propaganda against India is concerned.
In fact, he is the face of the deep and obnoxious anti-India and anti-Hindu agenda that the organisation pursues passionately and rabidly. Amnesty International India and Aakar Patel have time and again come up with columns that expose their intrinsic hatred for India.
Aakar Patel has been one of the strongest propagandists of the fake narrative of “Hindu terror”. In one of his articles, Aakar linked Giriraj Singh’s comments on Indian obsession with white skin to extremism and terrorism by Hindus. This points at his uncanny ability to blow things out of proportion and twist statements into an entirely different dimension, all in order to further his anti-India or anti-Hindu narrative.
