‘Understand the matter first,’ Juhi Chawla slams anti-CAA protesters, praises PM Modi

The protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act for the past one month have witnessed immense violence by the hooligan-like protesters. While it is a fair proposition to suggest that none of these protesters have read the piece of legislation, almost everybody on the streets seemed to portray themselves as though they have an expertise on the subject at hand. Due to the protests, public property has been vandalized to a large extent and the common Indians have been made to go through a tough time by some vested interest groups.

With an Akhand Bharat backdrop behind her, Juhi Chawla tore into these groups and political fronts which have been orchestrating protests across the nation. The event at which she was speaking was organized to counter the “Free Kashmir narrative, anti-India slogans, false propaganda and also clear the misconceptions” surrounding the Act. The backdrop also had the portrait of ‘Bharat Mata’ in it.

This is perhaps the first time a Bollywood star has not hesitated at speaking from a podium of such nationalistic setup. Apart from questioning those who orchestrated these protests, Juhi also lambasted those who were fooled into taking part in the same, and also the media, for being hungry for reactions of those whose opinion didn’t matter in the context of CAA.

“We are going to work, thinking about how to execute our task, then some incident happens somewhere and suddenly the media asks, ‘what do you think about this?’ We haven’t even understood the matter, people haven’t understood the matter but you need a reaction. Let people understand, whether it’s NRC or CAA, and what’s it about, why is this being talked about,” she said. This was aimed at a section of media which is always on the lookout for controversial statements by influential personalities to further validate the protests surrounding CAA.

Juhi Chawla also pointed out how citizens of India were ever-ready to question the government, without any knowledge about the subject at hand and without any context, leading to division in society. “Everyone is quick to talk about dividing. Why don’t we talk about uniting? Why does everyone say ‘what is the government doing, why is it doing this?’ but I say if you point one finger there then three fingers are at you. What are we doing? Let’s be calm, understand the situation,” she added.

Further, she also compared the average Indian to PM Modi. While stating that almost next to nobody in the audience she was addressing can claim to have not taken a holiday or day off in the last five years, PM Modi stood as a tall example of dedication, who, at any given moment is always concerned about how he can do good for the people of India. She did not need to explicitly mention the fact that the Prime Minister has not taken a single day off, as the audience erupted in applause.

Juhi Chawla’s strong statements come two days after Deepika Padukone decided to land at the JNU campus to express ‘solidarity’ with the ‘leftist’ students. Chawla’s remarks are also a tight slap on the faces of Farhan Akhtar, Vishal Dadlani, Swara Bhaskar and Padukone, who without any knowledge or background, land at protest sites merely to be caught by the cameras and reap free publicity out of the same.
