Ajay Devgn delivers a stunner, Tanhaji isn’t just a movie. It’s a Cinematic Masterpiece

To be honest, when history shall be reclaimed, Ajay Devgn’s name shall be written in golden letters for bringing to light the tale of a man, who was unjustly reduced to a mere footnote in the golden pages of the history of Bharatvarsha. And that man is none other than Subedar Tanhaji Malasure

Directed by Om Raut, ‘Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior’ is a biopic on the trusted general of Maratha braveheart and Emperor of the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who changed the face of Indian history as he reclaimed the Kondhana fort after a fierce battle with the Mughals, led by the guardian of the fort Uday Bhan Rathod.

The movie stars Ajay Devgn in the titular role, while Saif Ali Khan plays the role of the antagonist Uday Bhan Rathod. The two are supported by Kajol, Sharad Kelkar, Luke Kenny, Padmavati Rao, Shashank Shende, Devdatta Nage, and Neha Sharma among others.

Tanhaji Review: What’s Great –

In ‘Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior’, there is nothing that is just good, it is awesome. For a mainstream Bollywood movie, Tanhaji has set some overwhelming benchmarks that not many would be able to match.

Often cinemagoers as well as other people have complained that Bollywood is quite inept in terms of creating visual wonders. Regional cinema industries have, however, created Baahubali, KGF, Avane Srimannarayana to name a few. It seems Ajay Devgn took the challenge head on and created the cinematic delight that ‘Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior’ is. It’s so engaging, that blinking eyes will seem like a distraction and I am not exaggerating at all.

Tanhaji Review: – What’s Outstanding –

If Aditya Dhar shocked eveyone with his debut blockbuster ‘Uri – The Surgical Strike’, Om Raut went a notch ahead with his debut Hindi film. Screenplay, cinematography, music, VFX and above all casting, Tanhaji hits all the right notes with unmatched elan. Every action scene is choreographed with a distinct touch, for which action director Ramazan Bulut deserves a lion’s share of the praise. Cinematographer Keiko Nakahara, screenplay writer Prakash Kapadia and music directors Ajay Atul and Sachet Parampara deserve an equal appreciation for making Tanhaji a cinematic masterpiece.

Ajay Devgn, take a bow. You have done what no one could in Bollywood, resurrect the legacy of a forgotten warrior. Words won’t be enough to mention the way he portrayed Narveer Subedar Tanaji Malusare on screen. Ajay Devgn’s expressive eyes and his powerful dialogues will keep you glued to your seats.

Saif Ali Khan as Uday Bhan Rathod would remind you of Bhallaldeva in Bahulbali or even Xerxes in ‘300’. He will scare you, he will make your blood boil, and his antics will even make you chuckle, no matter how evil. Ranveer Singh may have been great in Padmaaavat, but Saif Ali Khan as Uday Bhan had raised the notch much higher.

Sharad Kelkar as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will be remembered as the case study in how to portray the legendary characters on screen. Padmavati Rao as Rajamata Jijabai, Luke Kenny as Mughal tyrant Aurangzeb did justice to their respective roles as well. Despite their limited presence, Kajol as Savitri Bai and Neha Sharma as Kamal are brilliant. I personally wish their roles were a bit longer.

Tanhaji Review: What’s not so good

The queues that have formed to get tickets for Tanhaji are way too long. If you are one of those who like peaceful environs while watching movies, then you are bound to be disappointed, because the whistles and claps wouldn’t just stop.

While, I, Animesh Pandey have already watched the movie (because I had to publish this review), the rest of Team TFI will watch it tomorrow as confirmed by the tweet of our CEO.
